Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl

Chapter 1297

As the car stopped at the company's entrance, Pearl heard a gentle tapping on her window before she could step out. She lowered the window and saw a smiling face outside, but it didn't look familiar to her.

"Excuse me. Who are you?" she asked.

"Hello, Miss Pearl. I'm Luther Crawford," the man introduced himself.

The surname Crawford struck a sensitive nerve in Pearl, immediately linking it to James Crawford. "What's your relationship with James?"

Upon hearing this, Luther's eyes narrowed in amusement. "You're very smart, Miss Pearl. But I came to see you today for a reason. Would you be able to spare some time to chat with me?"

Seeing Luther's determined expression, it was apparent he had been waiting there for a while. But Pearl didn't know him, so she had no intention of dealing with him. "I have to go to work now. We can talk later."Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

But Luther was persistent. "It won't take much of your time, and I believe you'll be interested in what I'm going to say."

"What do you mean?"

"It's nothing special, but it does concern your friend, Esther. Aren't you curious?"

Initially impatient, the mention of Esther's name caught Pearl's attention. "What do you know about her?"

"To put it simply, it's about her relationship with my brother. But if we delve deeper, it involves the Crawford family's affairs."

Pearl stepped out of the car and stood beside Luther. "In that case, come with me."

Pearl took Luther to a nearby cafe. It was relatively quiet, making it suitable for their

conversation.

Seated by the window, Pearl gestured for Luther to sit across from her. "Alright, you can speak now."

Luther nodded, then asked, "Miss Pearl, do you know that James, despite claiming to be infected, hasn't bought the drug you developed?"

"I'm aware of that."

"Since you know, have you ever suspected that he might not be infected?"

Pearl hesitated for a moment. "Are you suggesting he has other motives?"

"Of course. Perhaps only the Crawfords and I know the real reason behind his actions."

Listening to his cryptic words, Pearl frowned. "So what's going on with him?"

"I can tell you, but I might need you to do me a favor."

"What is it?" Pearl asked, knowing Luther must have an ulterior motive for telling her this. But she didn't expect him to be so insincere.

"Well, since I'm willing to tell you these, I definitely want to gain something from it." "Tell me."

"I want you to help me bring down the Crawfords."

Hearing this, Pearl raised her hands in a dismissive gesture. "I'm afraid I can't help you with that. I'm not as capable as you think."

The Crawfords were a powerful family, deeply entrenched in various networks. Bringing them down would be more complex than Luther seemed to believe.

"Don't be modest, Miss Pearl. I know what you're capable of. You're not as simple as you seem."

Pearl responded with a polite but insincere smile, "You're overestimating me, Mister Luther. It's really unnecessary."

"Why don't we work together?" Luther asked, looking earnestly into her eyes.
