Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl

Chapter 1296

Lorrie had expected Pearl to show signs of concern or fear after her words, but she was taken aback when Pearl chuckled.

"What's so funny?"

"Do you really think you're giving me a chance, Lorrie?"NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

Lorrie squinted. "What do you mean?"

"Why don't you call your lab and see what's going on?"

Suddenly, Lorrie seemed to grasp something. She took out her phone and was startled by the flood of messages. It had only been an hour since she invited Pearl, yet so much had already happened.

"You deliberately talked to me to make me lower my guard, all to destroy my lab?"

Pearl listened, somewhat resigned. "How can you say that I deliberately talked to you? Weren't you the one who reached out to me for a chat?"

Enraged, Lorrie slammed her phone to the floor. "You're so cunning, Pearl!"

"All's fair in love and war." Pearl didn't bother wasting words. "Your goal probably won't be achieved now. If you recognize your mistakes, you should turn yourself in."

"Turn myself in?" Lorrie's smile grew wider. "I won't surrender even if I die!" With that, she prepared to leap over the railing and jump.

But before she could jump, Pearl grabbed her arm.

"What are you doing? Why are you saving me?"

Lorrie couldn't understand why this woman would save her. They were enemies, so Pearl should feel relieved if she died. Yet Pearl held onto Lorrie's hand tightly, refusing to let go. "You have no right to die now," Pearl asserted, pulling Lorrie back.

Lorrie sat on the edge of the rooftop, feeling the chilly wind, a sense of desolation washing over her. "You won, Pearl."

Pearl looked at her calmly. "I've never won because I never wanted to defeat you."

"So you mean to say it was all a misunderstanding on my part?" Lorrie took a deep breath." Alright, I understand now. I'll turn myself in."

Three days later, they received news of Lorrie's death.

Pearl heard about it while having breakfast. Wayne sent her a message saying that Lorrie had committed suicide at the police station.

"I knew she never wanted to live." A strange emotion flickered in Richard's eyes.

"It's okay. It's all in the past now. You don't have to dwell on it," Pearl assured him, though she felt mixed emotions.

"Oh, by the way, I found something."

"What is it?" Pearl asked.

"The drug is already on the market, but there's no purchase record from the Crawfords."

Pearl frowned. "Didn't James get infected? And he's reportedly very ill. Why didn't he get it?

"I'm not sure. We'll have to send someone to find out more," Richard replied.

"Okay. If there's nothing else, I'll head to work now."

Richard stopped eating. "How about I drive you there?"

"It's okay. I can drive there myself." Pearl then said goodbye to Richard and drove to the office.
