CHAPTER 58
After exchanging some pleasantries, both of them remained silent for most of the journey.
Paul was driving the car he usually drove. He could sense that Miranda wasn’t in the best of moods, so he drove at a leisurely pace out of
consideration for her.
When they arrived at the entrance of the luxury neighborhood, the security guards even greeted Miranda at the gate. “Ms. Sutton, long time no see. Have you been on a business trip?”
Miranda gave them a faint smile and didn’t respond.
Paul briefly glanced at her profile, but he refrained from asking any questions. They drove in silence to the mansion’s entrance where Paul parked his car.
“Please wait here for a moment. I’ll come out after I get my books,” Miranda said as she got out of the car.
“Don’t you need my help?” he asked.
Miranda shook her head. “No, I don’t have many books. I can manage. on my own.” With that, she walked toward the mansion.
She rang the doorbell, and Martha’s voice called out, “I’m coming!”
Martha exclaimed in delight when she saw Miranda at the door, “Ms. Sutton!” She was finally back!
Miranda smiled and explained, “I’m here to pick some things up-”
Before she could finish her sentence, Hansel interrupted her, “So, you’ve arrived?” He was still dressed in pajamas, as if he’d just woken up.
He stood upstairs with his arms crossed, looking at Miranda with a mocking smile. “Did you come alone? Can you manage to carry
everything on your own?” He held a cup of coffee as he shot her a cold. look.
“Didn’t you say I just need to take them away? It’s none of your business whether I can carry them or not,” Miranda replied indifferently and walked straight to the study.
As she walked past Hansel, he followed her to the study as well.
Miranda took all the books from the bookshelves and sorted them neatly into piles. Then, she took out the sacks she prepared earlier and carefully placed the books inside one by one.
Hansel leaned against a nearby bookshelf and watched her coldly during the whole process. Although Miranda was drenched in sweat -and exhausted, she didn’t open her mouth to ask for his help.
She spent ten minutes packing her books into sacks and tying them up. Hansel didn’t say a word until she was about to leave, dragging the sacks with her. Suddenly, he erupted in anger.
Cursing under his breath, he kicked the pile of books and gripped her shoulder tightly. “Miranda, do you think I’m invisible? What do you take me for?
“You refused to return, no matter what, when I asked you to come back. last time. And yet you’re willing to step foot into this mansion again for a few lousy books.”
Miranda gasped and struggled to break free. “You’re hurting me. Let go of me!”
Hansel ignored her pleas, his eyes bloodshot with anger. “Answer me! What do you take me for? Am I a dog that you can summon and dismiss at will?”
“Hansel, you’re the one who suggested breaking up! Have you forgotten it? Speaking of which, you’re the one who often treated me like a slave
at your beck and call! What’s the matter? Can’t you handle it now?”
Miranda pushed his hands away forcefully. She couldn’t bear to have any skin contact with him.
Her expression of disgust completely enraged him. As Hansel stepped closer to her, Miranda retreated instinctively to keep her distance.
When her heel accidentally hit against the couch, she lost her balance and fell back onto it.
Hansel loomed over her. Miranda was sweating, and her face was flushed from the exertion earlier.
In her anxiety, she bit her lower lip unconsciously, making her lips even redder. Her chest rose and fell along with her nervous breathing.
Hansel recalled the countless nights their bodies had meshed together as they lost themselves in passionate lovemaking.
At the thought, blood rushed to his head. Without thinking, he bent down to capture her lips in a kiss. “Mimi…”ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
Miranda was both shocked and furious. She turned away to dodge his kiss and pushed against his tall frame. “Hansel! Are you crazy? We’ve already broken up!”
Ignoring her protests, Hansel pressed her onto the couch and reached out to remove her clothes.
Miranda clung desperately to the hem of her clothes, refusing to let go.” No, stop it! Don’t do this!”
