Chapter 519
Gemma only left the washroom once she was done comforting Zoey.
Hazel Tabitha, the director of the orphanage, said with a friendly face, "Ms. Zelnik, thank you for your sponsorship for the past decade. I'm sorry we can't provide you with any assistance." Gemma couldn't hide the disappointment in her eyes when she heard that. "Maybe she died a long time ago."
Hazel comforted her. "Since we can't find the child, I'm sure she's still alive out there. So, don't give up. I'll contact you immediately if I receive any news."
Gemma nodded. "Sure."
After Gemma left, the staff next to Hazel couldn't help saying, "Ms. Zelnik has been looking for her daughter for more than 20 years, right? How did she lose the child in the first place?"
Hazel sighed. "She had a tough life back then and wasn't as rich and powerful as she currently is. The child was taken away right after she was born, and she was left at our orphanage's doorstep in the middle of winter. If I hadn't seen her back then, she would've frozen to death."
The staff was confused. "So, why can't we find her daughter now?"
"She was adopted, but the person who adopted her gave us false information. I'm guessing they were worried that her biological parents would look for her," said Hazel. "I see..."
When Gemma had given birth back then, she'd been injured badly. Thus, she couldn't get pregnant anymore.
It had taken her a lot of effort to leave the Zelnik family. Then, she'd changed her appearance and escaped to another country, where she built her business empire.
After that, she'd returned to her home country and taken over the original Zelnik family. Needless to say, she'd ensured that the people who'd hurt her previously had been punished terribly.
Gemma sat in her car and clenched her fists tightly when she saw the photos Zoey sent her. Although Zoey wasn't her biological daughter, the latter treated her like her own.
Zoey was Gemma's everything. If anyone dared to mess with her daughter, she would make them pay.
Gemma called her subordinate first. "Halt all of the partnership projects we have with Lane Group for now." She couldn't believe Jeremiah would let Zoey feel aggrieved when he had just found his footing in the company.
After she was done giving out instructions, she started thinking about how she could deal with Yvette. She wanted the latter to experience true pain. When she investigated Yvette, she found out that she'd had two sons when she'd lived abroad.
...
Back at Dewberry Manor, Noah had just woken up, only to find blood on his pillow. He rubbed his nose, and it was sticky.
Noah had been showing signs of
relapsing recently, but he hadn't
dared to let Yvette know. So, he
removed the pillowcase and
chucked it in the trash can before
washing himself up.
If Yvette found out about it, she would send him back to the hospital to receive treatment. However, the treatment was too painful for him.
Yvette was busy composing songs. She didn't know about Noah's worsening condition.
When Xavier came out of the study, he heard rustling in the bathroom. "Yvvy?"
Noah frowned and said, "It's me, not Mom."
"What are you doing in the bathroom?"
"I've wet the bed, and I'm not washing my underwear. Do you want to help me, mister?" Noah decided to lie to him since he couldn't see at all.
Xavier entered the toilet and carried Noah outside. Then, he threw what Noah was washing into the trash can. "Just throw it away if it's dirty. Why would you even wash it?" Noah was speechless, thinking Xavier made sense.
"Is there anything else you need to do?" the latter asked again.
"Can you help me throw the bed
sheet and blanket away as well?" Noah asked as he thought there
were some blood stains on themetNôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

too. With Noah's help, Xavier chucked everything into the trash
can without a second thought.
Noah figured he could just tell Yvette that Xavier was the one who'd thrown them away if she found out about it. "Well... Mom is thrifty, so promise you won't tell her about this." "Yeah."
Noah didn't know why, but he thought it was nice that they had their own little secret at that moment.
