Chapter 244 Suffering

This was probably the agony of unrequited love. A heart full of feelings, yet never daring to express them.

Luckily, it was nighttime and the darkness helped hide Ranita's slightly blushing cheeks as she avoided looking at him. "Who's checking you out? Don't be so conceited," she said.

Brendon turned her face towards him, his handsome face getting closer and his long lashes even brushing against her cheek as he breathed in her ear. "That's not necessarily true, after all my face is pretty."

"We've been doing this for years!" Ranita put a hand up to stop him from getting too close. "You're such a child!"

Ranita smirked.

"So you're tired of me?" Brendon felt a little emotional inside. He reached out to rub her head and said, "Smile more often. You look beautiful when you do."

Ranita was taken aback for a moment.

"Let's go! Let's go home!" Brendon helped her back home while Ranita was feeling quite sleepy at first but now she didn't want to sleep anymore.

She read while Brendon went off to wash up.

"You're still awake?"

"I've slept enough these past few days. I want to read." As soon as Ranita finished speaking, the book in her hand was taken away by Brendon who then hugged her waist tightly and pulled her into his embrace saying, "The doctor says you need proper rest."

Ranita pushed against Brendon but didn't have enough strength.

She panted with red cheeks saying, "You're holding me too tight. How am I supposed to sleep? Loosen your grip a bit."

Brendon grabbed her hand and pressed it against her forehead. His gaze seemed to carry a wave of heat, making Ranita even redder. She felt a slight sweat on her back. "I... I'm going to sleep. Don't look at me like that," she stammered.

Ranita obediently complied.

She snuggled next to Brendon feeling both sour and sweet inside.

Brendon did not mention anything about divorce; he just took care of how she felt right now which fulfilled his marital duty.

Ranita reminded herself not get caught up again! Not get caught up again!

But she didn't sleep well.

The torment of those seven or eight days was enough to cause her stress. However, in front of others, she appeared very strong.

"It hurts... it hurts... I'm so thirsty... give me some water..." Ranita had nightmares where she returned back into that small dilapidated house where iron chains hung around ankles...

"Brenden... Brenden..." Ranita sweated profusely all over body shaking uncontrollably.

She wanted desperately to wake up but consciousness seemed separated from brain, making her unable to control her body movements.

"Ranita!" Brendon woke up immediately, patting Ranita's back and holding her in his arms to comfort her. "It's okay! I'm here! You're safe now, I'm right here with you!" Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.

"Don't be afraid! It's okay..." Brendon spoke softly, soothing her.

Ever since they came back, Ranita had been like this almost every night. Brendon felt heartbroken.

That was why he didn't want to let go of Ranita at this moment no matter what. Even if they were really going to get a divorce, he would wait until she was better before leaving.

Ranita was comforted and held onto his clothes tightly, tears in the corners of her eyes as she curled up into a small ball like an abandoned animal - pitiful beyond words.

When Ranita woke up from her sleep, Brendon wasn't on the bed anymore.

She felt confused for a moment and thought that maybe it was all just a dream. She couldn't remember what happened but felt mentally exhausted and extremely tired.

"Mmm... okay... I understand..." Brendon's voice came from outside as she stumbled towards the door to listen more closely.

"Ranita hasn't been sleeping well these days so I'll stay here with her for now."

"Sorry, Shannon," he continued speaking on the phone. "If you want anything as a gift just tell Caleb."

Ranita listened absentmindedly as waves of sourness washed over her heart.
