Chapter 19: Richard!!
Chloe dried her hair with a towel and wrapped another around her waist as she stepped out of the bathroom. The whole place was chilly and Chloe shivered. She breathed in her new smell deeply and smile. It was much more better than her earlier smell of poop.
She walked up to her wardrobe and opened it. Some of the clothes in there were smaller than her size as they were from when she was little. She grunted in anger and was about closing the wardrobe when she sighted a pair of pyjamas by the side of the wardrobe. She picked the pyjamas and put it on before walking into the sitting room, where Jake sat. Her parents were probably outside.
“Aren’t we supposed to save up on gas?” Chloe asked as she saw Jake watching a show on the television.
“What do you mean?” Jake asked with a slurred voice, not taking his eyes from the television.
Chloe sighed and said, “we don’t have much gas in the generator and it’s too risky to go into the city to buy some. So why don’t we manage the one we have already? So we won’t have to stress ourselves with gas.”
“Well, beause my favorite show is on,” Jake muttered, still not taking his eyes from the television and Chloe grunted in frustration. She walked up to the TV and unplugged it from the power outlet.
“Hey,” Jake shouted as the TV went off.
“We are supposed to save the little gas we have left. So don’t freaking complain,” Chloe retorted as she walked up to a small wooden stool and sat on it.
“But I was just about finding out if Cunningham was going to get married to Fiona. And if he was still in love with Catherine,” Jake mumbled and Chloe sighed.
“Can you just forget about the TV for once and focus on what we have in front of us? You were the one who even caused this issue we are in by hiring an unproffessional to do a professionals job. And now you’re just laying on the couch, eating freaking popcorn and drinking sodas and watching a stupid show when you’re supposed to be sober,” Chloe screamed angrily and Jake just shrugged.
“This is my way of being damn sober, Chlo,” he said as he lazily laid on the couch. “I am so freaking sober right now.”
“You’re supposed to be thinking of what we’re supposed to be doing next but instead you’re just sitting here, eating like an old dog,” Chloe muttered angrily.
“Well, this old dog still got it,” Jake said as he laughed out loud.
“Man, I really can’t handle your shit,” Chloe mumbled as she stood up from the stool and walked to the door. As she was about walking out the door, Jake called her back, causing her to pause on her tracks. She turned back and looked at him angrily. “What?” she screamed.
“Could you please plug the television back in?” he asked and Chloe sighed before walking out the door.
Derrick and Diana stood outside, each hdong a shotgun on their hands. The whole place was now dark and bats flew around the place. Chloe stood on the porch and watched her parents talking to each other As she watched them, she began reminiscing the first time they brought her there.
Chleo was thirteen years old when they brought her to the cabin. It was already seven years since they had adopted her.
They had to move from their old place in Nashville, Tennessee to Kingston in New York because of all the memories it brought her.
“You just have to follow this river,” Diana had said to her while they walked to the cabin. “You follow it and it’ll lead you straight to the cabin.”
“Yeah,” Derrick added. “You can also come here anytime you want.”
The memories warmed her as the cabin was where she also started her first assassin training.
“Chloe?” She heard Diana call her name, snapping her from her thoughts. She looked and saw Diana and Derrick staring at her with concern written all over their faces.
“Yeah, mom,” Chloe answered as she wiped the tear that was threatening to fall from her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt. “Watsup.”
“We’ve been calling your name for the past thirty seconds now,” Diana said as she walked up the porch stairs to Chloe. “Is everything okay? And… are you crying?”
“Nah,” Chloe lied as she sniffed and used her sleeve to clean her runny nose. “I just had something in my eyes.”
“Uhun,” Diana muttered. Chloe noticed Diana knew she was lying and she was happy she didn’t press further.
“How are you feeling now?” Derrick asked as Chloe amd Diana walked up to him.
“Most definitely better,” Chloe said as she smiled. “I do have a question I want to ask you guys though.”
Derrick slung his shotgun and said, “alright, then. Ask us. We’re all ears.”
“Well, you guys were also chased by the agents too,” she said and Derrick chuckled. He knew what she was about asking. “How were you guys able to escape? I mean, you guys were chased by two vehicles. How were you able to maneuver through them and escape?”
“Well, we actually had some external help,” Diana replied with a slight grin. Chloe looked at her with a confused expression on her face. External help?
“External help from who?” Chloe asked and Derrick shrugged. “You guys ain’t going to tell me?”
“Well, he is actually part of the FBI,” Diana explained and Chloe grunted.
“A mole,”Chloe muttered as she laughed. “I’m guessing it’s that weird handsome friend of the stupid agent. What’s his name, again?”Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
“John Evans?” Diana asked and Chloe nodded.
“Yeah,” she said. “It’s his friend, right?”
“No, it’s not his friend,” Derrick said with a sigh. “He’s way too good to be a mole.”
“Um, who’s it then?” Chloe asked and just as Derrick was about replying her, they heard footsteps coming towards them from the bushes.
Derrick and Diana immediately cocked their guns and pointed it towards the direction of the footsteps and they saw a silhouette approaching them.
“Hey, Derrick,” the person said and Derrick chuckled.
“Richard,” he said with a smile.
