The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 53

Chapter 53

Cordelia came home and told Barney, "I'm not really feeling like eating tonight."

Concerned, Barney asked, "Why aren't you eating? Are you on a diet or something?"

"No, Barney. I already ate at work."

"Don't just go on diet for the sake of it, health comes first," Barney said with genuine concern.

After a brief chat with Barney, Cordelia headed upstairs.

Around eight in the evening, Cordelia started experiencing stomach pain.

Sweating profusely, her stomach in knots, she curled up in bed.

Upon seeing Cordelia's condition, Ronan frowned, "Are you running a fever?"

"I don't think so," she replied, her teeth chattering and drenched in sweat.

Looking at Ronan's expression, Cordelia felt a sense of unpredictability. She grabbed his wrist, "What Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.

did I do wrong? I just can't seem to read you."

Ronan just stared at her, "Now's not the time for this."

He shot her a stern look.

Cordelia didn't dare to say another word.

"We're going to the hospital," Ronan said, lifting Cordelia off the bed and heading downstairs.

At the nearest private hospital, Ronan set Cordelia down.

With the height of 170cm, Cordelia weighed around 50kg. Once inside the hospital, she noticed beads

of sweat on Ronan's forehead.

In that moment, Cordelia found those eyes even more comforting.

"You don't need to carry me, I'm not that sick, I can walk." Cordelia said, even though her stomach pain

was worsening. She didn't think much of it since she had experienced worse.

"So what would you consider a serious illness?" Ronan retorted.

Cordelia was speechless, not knowing if life-threatening or vegetative state-inducing diseases were

considered serious.

The doctor quickly examined Cordelia and diagnosed her with gastritis.

She had eaten cold food at work which had triggered it.

Soon, Cordelia was moved to a private room.

Ronan stayed by her side.

Cordelia felt a bit embarrassed.

"What cold food did you eat?" Ronan asked.

Cordelia explained everything that had happened that day.

When she recalled the conversation at the office, Cordelia clarified, "I didn't mean to set Deanna up,

and I wasn't faking illness. The food she brought for you was hot, but the office microwave was broken,

so I had to eat cold food."

By the end, Cordelia's voice was barely above a whisper, as if she knew she had done something

wrong.

"Was it my fault? Did I cause you trouble?" Ronan asked, furrowing his brows.

"No, everything you say and do is right," Cordelia assured him, her eyes wide, face pale, and

completely serious.

Even in her state, she was still joking.

"Are you jealous of Deanna?" Ronan asked.

"I...I don't have the right to be jealous," Cordelia replied, her eyes downcast and a hint of sadness in

her voice.

Ronan stopped talking to Cordelia and called the Logistics Department to replace the microwave in the

Finance Department.

He then called Jordan to get leave for Cordelia without stating a reason.

The reason wasn't important.

"Do I need to stay in the hospital?" Cordelia asked Ronan.

"According to the doctor, you need to be on IV for three days."

"Three days? There goes another weekend," Cordelia muttered under her breath.

Ronan was speechless.

The next day, everyone in the company knew about Cordelia's leave because the microwave in the

Finance Department had been replaced.

The microwave had been broken for some time, but it was only replaced when Cordelia fell ill.

Apparently, Cordelia had quite the influence.

"Isn't it obvious? Cordelia got sick just when Deanna brought food for everyone at the company. It's

clear she's playing games," the company gossiped.

"Can't Cordelia use some tactics against Deanna who's clearly after Mr. Evans? She just wiped out all

of Deanna's brownie points."

The entire company was abuzz with rumors.

When this reached Brooklyn, she defended, "Don't talk nonsense, Cordelia isn't like that."

No one dared to say anything more, they just whispered behind her back. After all, Cordelia was quite

the strategist, and Mr. Evans seemed to listen to her.

They didn't want to risk retribution.
