MISTAKE 21
Chapter 21: Setting her own trap
Anya took out her phone and called the account manager Mr. Lane. She might as well clear the account. Even though there would still be evidence of the transactions done in the past, she did not want the money to be found. Whoever owned the money would anic if it disappeared.
“Mr. Lane, It’s Anya Shaw,” she said,
“Mrs. Shaw. It is surprising to hear from you. How may I help you?” Mr. Lane answered.
“I would like to move all the money fro

my account to another, can you start the process? I
“Madam, are you sure you are allowed to transfer this money?” he asked and Anya immediately heard warning bells go off in her head.
“What do you mean?” she asked, trying hard to keep her voice as innocent as possible.
“I am just asking if you have all the permission,” he said and she paused.
“What kind of permissions?” she asked.
“Does your husband’s family know you are moving this much money?” he asked and a cold smile emerged on her lips. He meant Lena. She had always wondered how most transactions just went through without much clearance. So, Lena had bought the accountant. She almost felt like laughing. What a good friend she had. They actually set her up to take the fall.
“But I have to, my husband would be checking my assets in a bit,” she said hurriedly.
“Why would you husband be checking your assets?” he asked.
instead,” Anya
“What does it have to do with you? Don’t worry, I will call the bank manager instead,” said, feigning anger and ended the call.
Anya knew it was only a matter of time before the news reached Lena. Anya almost laughed out loud at the situation. It seems moving the money was not possible. Then, she would–create suspicion. She took out her phone and called a good friend named Mary.
“Anya, how is it? Enjoying the cruise already? Mary asked.
“Mary, what do I do? You know about finance stuff, right?” Anya asked.
“Why? Did something happen?” Mary asked.
“My husband found papers about the account. I called to tell them to take out the money but the account manager wouldn’t,” Anya rattled.
“Calm down, what money? What account?” Mary asked.
“An account I seem to have with him.”

“The joint account? Do you want me to take a look?” she asked.
“What a joint account, It is my account alone. What if he finds out I took the document? You know people at Steel Bank, Right? Could you help me?” Anya asked.
“Lena said you had a joint account with your husband, which account is this? The same one Lena had said?” Mary asked.
“Probably. Did she know it was a joint account? Why didn’t she tell me? When she introduced me to her friend who is the account manager, I remember that it was a personal account I had applied for. How do they even do this? If Daniel finds out, I will get in trouble. I need to move the money and remove his name, please.” she begged.
“Anya, Daniel doesn’t have a joint account with you? That is…interesting. How did you add his name?” she asked.
“That’s what I want to know. Isn’t that fraud? I don’t even have access to Daniel’s Id, how did they make this kind of mistake? What if Daniel thinks I am the one who stole his personal information?” Anya said in a panicked voice.
“Calm down. Call your account manager and have it moved, Is it a lot of money?”
“I don’t know, it’s should be Lena’s money,”
“Why is your Lena keeping her money in your account?” Mary asked.
“How am I supposed to know? She is the only one who knows I have the account and went with me to open. She even put the first deposit as my wedding gift. Can you help me or not? I just want to empty it and change…no. Close it. Can I just close it?” she asked.
“Where will you put the money?” Mary asked.
“In my personal account I will ask Lena to send over her account number,” Anya said.
“What do you even do with a fake joint account?” Mary sighed, “Anya, why is your life so dramatic?”
“It was just for show. Lena probably just passes money through it or something. It is not an important account. She can just pass it through my personal one. Just inquire for me. I can stall Daniel till tomorrow since we are all busy right now, but I want that account gone by tomorrow. Please, Mary.”
“Alright. I can’t promise anything, but I will speak to a few managers,” Mary said and Anya ended the call. Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
The panic on Anya’s face disappeared the moment she put the phone down. What a friend indeed. Mary always wanted to know a lot of things. She would always beat around the bush for information about the Shaw family. Why had she never noticed this before?
Anya sneered. Since Mary was so curious, Anya would feed her till she was full.

She took the file in hand and walked out of the room. Not long after, her phone started ringing. She did not need to look at the caller ID to know who it was. She let it ring for a while, only putting it on vibrate; She walked all the way to a small living room where a fireplace had been lit. From what the staff told her, Daniel was in the other room. They said there was a small drinking room connected to this living room and people inside could hear what was said from where she stood.
Only after the phone started ringing again did she pick the call that kept coming in continuously, and placed it on a loudspeaker, not forgetting to record the conversation too. She put
the phone down on the table before walking over to the fireplace,
“What is it?” she asked impatiently.
“What is with your tone?” Lena said pitifully, “Why did you not pick my call?”
“I am busy, Lena. What is it? Are you not yet on the cruise?” Anya asked offhandedly.
“Why did I hear that you are moving money from your account?” Lena asked.
“Yes, but why is it suddenly a joint account? I don’t remember asking for a joint account, right?” Anya asked.
“No matter what, Anya. That money isn’t yours. You should not move it yet,” Lena said.
“I don’t care, I am closing that account. If you know whose money it is, send their account so I can send the money over,” Anya said defiantly.
“That is…” Lena started to say but paused. Anya knew she would not admit to herself and her parents owning the money. That is not what she wanted to catch anyway.
“Do you really want to transfer the money out? Transferring that amount of money at once would take a while.”
“What do you mean? I can always ask Mary to help me push it. Just tell me the account. number, I will send the money over. I have a pen with me, you can directly tell me.” Anya said.
“Mary would help you push it?…” Lena asked and Anya glanced at the phone. Her hand sorting the documents she wished to burn pausing in place.
“Yes, she said she will look into moving it for me,” she answered. She internally begged Lena to take the bait.
In the other room, Daniel and his second brother Ryan, were listening to their conversation.
Daniel picked up the remote control beside him and put on the TV in the room. The scene in the living room became clear to both of them..
