Chapter 15: To be Pursued.

Doctor Steele was a tall man with dark hair and hazel eyes. He had on a white overcoat over his dark blue corporate outfit. When doctor Joseph saw him, he smiled slightly.

“I was wondering how Dr. Steele could be far right now?” Dr. Joseph teased and Anya’s mother raised a knowing eyes between her daughter and Dr. Steele.

“Yes, just a few minutes ago,” Anya answered.

“Just call her Anya. Miss Jones is too stiff to bring you closer,” Stella said shamelessly, causing some chuckles to escape around the room.

“Mom!” Anya said with a red face. She knew many in the hospital knew Dr. Steele had a thing.

Anya was not blind. She had just been ignoring it. She had even worn her wedding ring several times to deter him, but for some reason, he never stopped.

Doctor Steele was a nice man and it was clear that he liked her. But Anya had always been stuck on Daniel.

With her mother teasing them, she wondered if she was encouraging her daughter to cheat.

Anya sighed at this. She was barely married at this point. Her divorce already had a deadline. Should she be worried about honoring vows that her own husband clearly dishonors every day?

Anya glanced at Doctor Steele. He was a tall man almost Daniel’s height and quite handsome. too. She wondered, if she had not fallen for Daniel and married him, would she have given him a chance?

“Stella, I see you are doing well,” Dr. Steele walked over and greeted Stella.

“Yes, I can’t wait to leave the hospital,” Stella answered.

“You heard the doctor said it would be safe to leave in a few months, congrats mum,” Anya said to her mother.

“That’s good then. I still have some work to do, so I have to go back. Anya, I am still waiting for my coffee.” Doctor Steele reminded Anya before he turned to leave.

“When I am leaving, I will call to see when you are free,” she said and he nodded before leaving.

“A date?” Stella asked her daughter with a broad smile when she saw Dr. Steele leave.

Chapter 15 To be fui surd

“Of course not! He is the one who called the police when that old woman came today. I am getting coffee with him” Anya explained, taking a seat beside her mother’s bed.

“He is the one Who called the police?”

“When the old woman called me yesterday, and threatened that she would come see you, I called him to ask if he could keep an eye out and call the police if she comes around.” Anya

answered.

“You should have said so earlier so that I can thank him,” Stella sighed in regret.

“It’s fine, am I not already thanking him with coffee?” Anya asked.

“You thanking him is different. I need to thank him myself. Besides, who knows if you are thanking him or going on a date,” Stella could not help teasing her daughter.

“Mom! You know I am married!” Anya was a bit frustrated with all the teasing.

“Married? I have never seen your husband before, are you sure he is real?” her mother asked, when Anya stuffed a piece of fruit in her mouth.

“He is just busy,” she said.

“For three years? Don’t worry, I know he probably doesn’t like me. What bothers me is, he like you?” Stella said and Anya went silent. She knew the answer to that. He didn’t.

“You are not wearing your wedding ring, today!” Stella commented and Anya looked at her empty hands.

“You are right, mum. He doesn’t. I have decided to let go,” Anya said and her mother’s eyes

reddened.

“Is it because of me?” Stella asked.

“Mum, no. How could it be?”

“Have I dragged you down?” Stella asked.

“What are you saying? How could you drag me down? I am worried I have been the one dragging you down all these years. He just likes someone else,” Anya said.

“Then it’s good you are leaving. Don’t get stuck on a man like that, when there are men out there who want you. Make sure you take Doctor Steele on a date,” Stella said to Anya, but Anya only calmly continued feeding her more fruits.

Anya sat with her mother for quite a while. Stella switched between telling her good stories and gossip she heard in the ward and urging her to bring home a man.

Some of the patients in the ward joined and teased Anya till she grew a thick skin. After a while, Anya was ready to go. But when she thought of going back, she suddenly recalled the man waiting for her back home and felt a headache coming.

Anya had enjoyed spending time with her mother so much she completely forgot about Daniel and that she would have to go back to face him tonight.

Her face soured as she thought of this, making her mother think she was reluctant to leave.

“Don’t worry, in a few months, we will live together again. I know you won’t be able to see me tomorrow since you have work to do, but it’s just a few months and we will see every day,” her mother consoled her. Anya smiled at her words, letting her pat her back.

“Yes, in a few months,” she answered. She did not want to burden her mother with these new problems that rose out of nowhere this week, named Daniel.

She used to be excited at the thought that he would be home. In fact, she still was excited. Habits were hard to cha. But the fact that he did not like her and she was treated so badly by him brought her pain when she thought of him.

“Take Dr. Steele to more than coffee darling, take him home,” Stella shouted as Anya reached the door and she threw her mother a glare under the laughter of those in the room before leaving. She picked her phone up later on and called Dr. Steele.

“Dr Steele, are you free now? I am about to leave,” she said to him, the moment he picked her

phone call.

“Yes, Let’s meet at the dessert shop opposite the hospital. Go over, I will meet up with you there,” he said and she agreed and put away her phone. When she got outside, she only walked for a bit before a car drove over to stop in front of her. She recognized the car and noticed the driver get out to open the door.

“You are still here?” she asked in shock. She thought he had long left after dropping her off an hour ago.

“The master said to take you wherever you wish and bring you back to the mansion,” he replied politely.

“I still have an appointment so, you can leave,” she rejected him.

“It’s fine, Miss, I will take you to your appointment. This is my job,” he insisted and she paused, slightly conflicted.

“It’s just in the dessert shop opposite the hospital, I can get there myself,” she refused. She knew he was there to keep tabs on her, but she was only going to the other side of the street.

“Then, I will wait, when you are done with your appointment, I will he was still insistent, she nodded and walked away.
