Chapter 591
Chapter 591
“It’s just trying to silence someone. That’s all it is, Emma. For the first time, I feel so powerless.”
“Look, Allison, I get it. I really do. Back in the day, when I came out alone to work hard, my boyfriend
dumped me for my cousin. I felt like a walking punchline.
Allison, you just need some rest, okay? All this media circus will blow over. You’re starting on that new
movie this Friday. We’re in this for the career, girl! Men? They’re not worth your brain space! Forget
about that jerk!”
“Yeah, everything will pass.” Allison repeated softly.
After hanging up, Emma let out a long sigh and opened her laptop. Photos and videos of Penelope
cluttered her screen. How could Lucian be so blind? Penelope’s messy private life was no secret, yet
Lucian still stood up for her.

Emma received a call from an unknown number.
“Hello?”
“Hi, is this Emma?”
“Speaking. Who’s this?”
“Oh, I’m a friend of Hughes. He’s been hurt. Can you come over?”
“Hurt?” Emma shot to her feet.
At the hospital.
Hughes had just been moved out of the ICU after a four-hour emergency ordeal the previous night. His
vital signs were finally stabilizing.
Bryan and a few buddies were waiting outside, all visibly relieved.
“Let’s close the Blue Club for a week to renovate. We won’t open for business,” Bryan instructed his
friends. “Jayden, you handle that. And for the staff injured last night, make sure they’re taken care of.
We’ll cover the hospital bills and give them some extra for their trouble.”
“Got it, boss.”
“Boss, who were those guys in black anyway?” one of his friends couldn’t help but ask.
Bryan was clueless.
They had come prepared, ready to fight at the drop of a hat, probably targeting Hughes. But if Hughes
had recently offended someone, Bryan was in the dark about it.
Bryan lit a cigarette. “Look, I’ll stay here. You guys must be tired. Go home, clean up, and get some
rest. You might not have been stabbed, but you’re bound to have some bruises after last night’s brawl.
Come back later.”
“Alright, boss. We’ll head out. Call us when Hughes wakes up!”
The hospital corridors were bustling with activity.
Emma stepped out of the elevator and headed straight to the nurse’s station. “Excuse me, could you
tell me where the patient admitted last night is? The one with dyed blond hair, tall, slim…”
“Oh, him? Are you family? A friend?”
“Just a friend.”
. “He was in a bad way last night. He lost a lot of blood. Lucky for him, the knife missed the vital organs.
He’s out of the ICU, in room 12, bed B.”
“Thank you,” Emma said before heading to room 12. At the door, she saw a young man squatting, with
a cigarette dangling from his lips. He took a drag, but when a passing nurse reminded him smoking
wasn’t allowed, he flashed an apologetic smile and snuffed it out.
Emma recognized him. He worked at Blue Club and was a good friend of Hughes, but she didn’t know
his name.
