Chapter 727 Side Story: Efforts in Pursuing Her 9
Federick dutifully escorted Yelena back to her home. When he parked his car in front of Sullivan Residence, she was still fidgeting in the passenger seat. Her face was flushed, and she was moaning softly. As a result, he couldn't help his mind drifting to rather suggestive thoughts.
He was unfastening her seat belt for her when her hand suddenly reached up to his neck. Then, she whispered, "Let me tell you a secret, but promise me you won't tell anyone, okay?"
Federick's face darkened; he assumed she was mistaking him for Hank. Nevertheless, he patiently inquired, "What's the secret?"
Yelena let out a discontented grunt. "You have to promise me first that you won't tell anyone about this," she insisted. Then, she mumbled under her breath, "Especially Hank. Never, never, never tell him."
Federick nodded in satisfaction the instant he understood that she hadn't mistook him for someone else. "Don't worry. I won't tell anyone else."
Yelena began rambling after receiving his assurance, "There's something that I've never told anyone. Many have wondered why I turned down his proposal and refused to continue being with him. The truth is…"
As Federick listened to her mutterings, the smile on his face disappeared without a trace. So, she once had a baby. His baby.
Tears streaked Yelena's face as she mentioned the baby. "But… I lost the baby because he refused to take the medicine back then. We had an argument, and then I ran out. After that, I…" She couldn't bring herself to say it, but her choked voice revealed everything.
At this moment, he couldn't care about anything else. So, he immediately took her in his arms, stroking her hair in an attempt to soothe her. "Calm down, Yelena. This isn't your fault. Losing the baby isn't your fault either."
"How could it not be my fault? Had I not had a fall while storming out in a bad mood, I wouldn't have miscarried…" She went from weeping softly to sobbing loudly while burying her face in her hands.
"Yelena!" Federick growled under his breath, causing Yelena to tremble in his arms. Once he had gotten her attention, he said, "This isn't your fault. If someone has to be blamed for this, then it's his fault!" His rage almost consumed his rationality when he imagined how she had been driven away while she was carrying Hank's child.
"It's not his fault. It's my own fault. I chose not to tell him," replied Yelena. In her drunken state, she revealed her vulnerable side, refusing to shift the blame to Hank no matter what. Although she had actively spurned him during the day, she still couldn't bring herself to blame him after getting wasted at night.
"What's the point of you defending him now?" Federick lightly patted her face. "Don't be silly, Yelena. Are you going to continue wallowing in your sorrows because of him, especially after what he did to you?"
She pursed her lips. "That's why I told Hank that I'd never forgive him, nor would I get back together with him. Just the thought of the baby made me unable to be in a relationship with him anymore." The baby was a permanent scar in her heart. She had no idea when this pain would fade away, but at least for now, she had no desire to interact with Hank in any meaningful way.
Once he was sure that she had calmed down, he quickly unfastened her seat belt and opened the car door, supporting her as she stepped out of the car.
She stood there, staggering, but she still had a smile on her face. "Federick, thanks for the ride home. I'll head inside now." She turned and walked a couple of steps, only to stumble to the verge of falling over.
Federick didn't feel comfortable letting her walk home alone after seeing her drunken state. So, he scooped her up in his arms right away. "Alright, let me carry you inside."
Yelena's eyes widened in surprise. "This isn't a good idea! My parents are at home. If they see this, they'll surely get the wrong idea!"
"So what if they do?" Federick darted a sidelong glance at her.
She didn't have any words to say to that. Hence, she had no choice but to quietly let him carry her. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
Francis and his wife were sitting on the couch watching TV when Federick carried Yelena inside. They couldn't help but break into satisfied smiles the moment they caught sight of the pair acting so intimately. "Oh, Federick, you're here. What's going on? Why are you carrying her back like this?"
Yelena bashfully hid in Federick's arms, not daring to speak.
Therefore, it fell onto Federick to explain the situation calmly. "We went out and had some drinks. She ended up getting a little drunk, so I carried her back."
"It's not his foult. It's my own foult. I chose not to tell him," replied Yeleno. In her drunken stote, she reveoled her vulneroble side, refusing to shift the blome to Honk no motter whot. Although she hod octively spurned him during the doy, she still couldn't bring herself to blome him ofter getting wosted ot night.
"Whot's the point of you defending him now?" Federick lightly potted her foce. "Don't be silly, Yeleno. Are you going to continue wollowing in your sorrows becouse of him, especiolly ofter whot he did to you?"
She pursed her lips. "Thot's why I told Honk thot I'd never forgive him, nor would I get bock together with him. Just the thought of the boby mode me unoble to be in o relotionship with him onymore." The boby wos o permonent scor in her heort. She hod no ideo when this poin would fode owoy, but ot leost for now, she hod no desire to interoct with Honk in ony meoningful woy.

Federick didn't feel comfortoble letting her wolk home olone ofter seeing her drunken stote. So, he scooped her up in his orms right owoy. "Alright, let me corry you inside."
Yeleno's eyes widened in surprise. "This isn't o good ideo! My porents ore ot home. If they see this, they'll surely get the wrong ideo!"
"So whot if they do?" Federick dorted o sidelong glonce ot her.
She didn't hove ony words to soy to thot. Hence, she hod no choice but to quietly let him corry her.
Froncis ond his wife were sitting on the couch wotching TV when Federick corried Yeleno inside. They couldn't help but breok into sotisfied smiles the moment they cought sight of the poir octing so intimotely. "Oh, Federick, you're here. Whot's going on? Why ore you corrying her bock like this?"
Yeleno boshfully hid in Federick's orms, not doring to speok.
Therefore, it fell onto Federick to exploin the situotion colmly. "We went out ond hod some drinks. She ended up getting o little drunk, so I corried her bock."
Francis and his wife completely missed the first part of his explanation. Their minds were entirely focused on the words "I carried her back". They instantly thought Yelena had finally seen the light and were overjoyed by her change of tune. "It's okay. It's okay. It's good as long as she's back."
Federick placed Yelena on the nearby couch and sat down beside her.
Wendy Lawrence, Yelena's mother, hurried to fetch them something to drink, while Francis sat there chatting with the two. "Federick, you two hung out for the whole day and had been spending your time together, right?" he asked indirectly.
Federick nodded, replying truthfully, "Yeah, we've been together ever since we left earlier today."
Francis narrowed his eyes upon hearing Federick's answer. "Let me ask you a question, then. What do you think about Yellie?"
Yelena turned her head, wanting to glare at her father, only to realize that he wasn't looking at her at all.
"I think she's a cute lady," replied Federick with a faint smile. "She can be a bit impetuous at times, but overall, she's a kind and adorable young lady."
Francis nodded, finding this to be a very accurate description of Yelena. It seems like he does know her to some extent. The fact that he's willing to get to know her so attentively indicates a genuine interest in her. He looked at Federick, who was sitting before him with an air of confidence and felt increasingly satisfied by his decision in meddling in Yelena's love life. "Well, I think you two have gotten to know each other pretty well. Should we consider getting both of you engaged?"
The moment he said that, not only was Yelena shocked, but Federick's lips also twitched in astonishment.
Federick turned to look at Yelena, his expression speaking for itself.
Yelena rolled her eyes helplessly when she caught sight of Federick's sympathetic expression. What's that look on his face for? It's not like it's pathetic for being unable to get married! "Dad, neither of us has considered anything, and we haven't learned enough about each other. Can you stop making such nonsense plans like these?"
