“What are you talking about? Millie has to come!

Winston raised his gaze and stared past the sofa to empty walls. This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .

He thought of what Millie said. She pleaded, “Winston, stop seeking me out.”

Winston looked down and steeled himself before saying, “A few problems have surfaced between Millie and me. So, we’re planning to get a divorce!

Selma froze for a second before scolding him, “You ungrateful child, you, you-

Winston remained silent, ready for her scolding. However, the line had suddenly gone quiet.

He frowned and called her name.

Silence continued. Winston’s heart sank to his stomach.

He stood up hurriedly and called Gloria. He said, “Mom, go see whether something happened to Grandma!”

The next day, Selma lay on the bed of her private ward, her face pale.

The doctor, Drake Hugh, examined her. Then, he reminded them, “Mrs. Greer Senior is not doing well. As her family, you shouldn’t aggravate her.”

Gloria’s face was filled with concern. Upon hearing his words, she glared at Winston.

Drake added, “Take good care of her. We’ll keep her here for observation for another two days. If there are no problems, she can go home!”

Gloria nodded and said, “Dr. Hugh, thank you so much! We’ve greatly inconvenienced you by calling you over in the middle of the night!”

“What are you talking about? This is our responsibility as doctors.” Drake smiled so she wouldn’t be so polite.

After sending him off, she looked at Winston.

“Winston, look at what you’ve done!” As she spoke, she banged her bag onto him.

Winston took two steps back and tried to block her with his arm.

Gloria scolded, “You dare to block me? Put your hand down!”

Winston was speechless.

He was 26. Was it appropriate for his mother to beat him up as though he was a little kid?

“That’s enough, Mom, Winston frowned and took her bag from her. He continued, “I know I’ve made a mistake.”

lara sat down “You admit to it fast enough! Yet, you do it again every time!” on her chair while angry tears rolled down her face.

She exclaimed, “What wrong did I make to give birth to such an irresponsible man like you? Millie is so sweet, yet you want to divorce her? Haven’t you done her enough wrong? Can you look the Caldwells in the eye?”

As she spoke, Gloria wiped her tears away. She continued, “Millie left her hometown for you! She severed all ties to the Caldwells! She changed from a carefree heiress to a regular girl forced to do

everything by herself! What has she done wrong to be treated this way by a playboy like you?”

Gloria put herself in Millie’s shoes. As a woman, she got even angrier the more she thought about it!

Millie had done nothing wrong. Winston was, for owing Joanna. Now, he had to marry her.

– Winston replied, “Mom, I’m touched by what Millie did. However, being touched isn’t love!”

He didn’t realize a figure had stopped outside their door.

> Gloria glared at him and asked, “Then what do you think love is?”

Winston frowned. The words Millie said yesterday echo in his ears:

“We’ve been like a rubber band for three years. You ran toward Joanna uninhibitedly, and I tried to hold you back. However, I couldn’t hold you back, no matter how hard I tried. I hurt myself in the process instead. After I let you go, I felt so much more relaxed.”

Millie was only human. Of course, she would feel tired.

He couldn’t take responsibility for her. Thus, he had to give her freedom as soon as possible.

When he thought of that, he looked up and gathered his courage before saying, “Mom, stop making my life difficult. I don’t like Millie. I cannot continue with this marriage!

“It would be nothing but torture for Millie and me if we continue down this road!”
