Chapter 528
"Don't be silly. This isn't your fault. It's mine. I wasn't strong enough to protect you and Zach."
"Don't say things like that," I interrupted him firmly. "You've already done more than enough. If it's anything, it's me who has dragged you into this. But Ethan, I miss you so much. And Zach must miss his father too. When can we see each other again?"
Another heavy silence lingered. "I'm sorry, Evelyn. I'll find a way to get Zach back to you, but only after Vivian has calmed down. I promise you, Zach will return to you."
Hearing his solemn vow, I couldn't hold back my tears any longer. "Ethan, I don't care how long it takes, I'll wait for you."
After the call ended, I collapsed into the driver's seat. Tears streamed down my face. Hearing his voice, even through the phone, felt like my heart had been brought back to life. But I didn't know how long it would be before I could see him again.
What about Zachary? Was he eating properly? Was he thinking about his mother?
The thought of my son brought fresh tears to my eyes. As a mother, I had failed completely. I could only watch as my child was mistreated, utterly powerless to do anything.noveldrama
All of it was my fault. If not for me, Ethan and Zachary wouldn't be suffering like this. Vivian's grudge was against me. Every ounce of her hatred stemmed from me. I had to fix this.
Just then, the sound of approaching footsteps broke the stillness of the parking lot. I looked up and saw a man in a suit walking toward me. As he stepped into the dim light, his face became clear.
It was none other than the CEO of Mars Group-and Vivian's father, Murphy.
"So late at night, Ms. Wiley. What brings you here?" Murphy asked. His deep voice echoed, yet laced with
an undercurrent of malice. I stared at him warily and clenched my fists.
"Mr. Albright, shouldn't I be asking you the same thing? What are you doing creeping around here at this hour?"
Murphy chuckled. His lips curved into a sly smile. "Oh, Ms. Wiley, don't misunderstand. I'm simply here to retrieve my car. How fortunate to run into you."
"Cut the act," I snapped. My voice was icy. "Don't tell me you're unaware of what your daughter has been doing to my son. Her actions are clearly under your orders."
Murphy feigned an expression of innocence. "Ms. Wiley, you wound me. I never interfere in my daughter's affairs. Besides, children's pranks hardly qualify as bullying, don't you think?"
"Pranks?" could feel my anger boiling over. My body was trembling. "You call that a prank? Zach is just five years old, and you've let her torment him like this. You're worse than a human!"
Murphy's face darkened. A glint of menace flashed in his eyes. But he quickly regained his composure and that façade of a fake smile.
"Ms. Wiley, watch your words. Accusations like that could have consequences..."
"Consequences?" I shot back, refusing to back down. "What, you'll ruin me? Lock up my son too? I know full well the Albright's tactics."
Murphy narrowed his eyes and sneered. "Ms. Wiley, let's not escalate this unnecessarily. I came here to offer you a deal."
"A deal? After what your despicable daughter has done to my son, you have the audacity to talk about a deal?"
Murphy remained unfazed. He
spoke in a measured tone, "All I ask is that you promise to stop causing trouble for the Albright family in return, I'll ensure that you and Evelyn Studio are left alone.
"Think about it, you've got money and a bright future ahead. Just let Vivian feel at ease, and we can settle this peacefully. I might even consider investing in Evelyn Studio to sweeten the deal."
What do you think?
