Chapter 7
Hadley’s death brought him with both sorrow and regret.
Alpha Derick was utterly ashamed.
With tears in his eyes, he said, “I’m sorry. I… didn’t spend enough time with him over the years. I thought there would be more time, that what was lost could be made up for in the future. I… never imagined it would end like this. I truly didn’t mean for this to happen.”
It was the first time in all these years that the
arrogant Alpha Derick had apologized with such humility. But it came too late.
Hadley would never hear these words.
“Don’t apologize. Apologies are useless.
“Alpha Derick, do you know that if you had believed me even a little that day, Hadley might have been saved?
“He had a chance to survive…
“Why did you wait until he was dead to regret?”
My heart shattered. I was in agony. I would never see my dear Hadley again.
I loathed Alpha Derick’s coldness.
I hated myself even more for falling in love with him.
Seeing me venting like a madwoman, Veronica couldn’t help but stand up and scold me.
“Eileen, can’t you see how distressed Alpha Derick is? Why are you still so relentless? How can you be so heartless?”
Without hesitation, I slapped Veronica.
“This is none of your business, mistress!”
“Alpha Derick may be foolish, but you are evil! Both of you are responsible for Hadley’s death!”Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
In the past, no matter what Veronica did, I could tolerate it for Hadley’s sake.
But now, with them having killed Hadley, I could no longer stand it.
Veronica was stunned by my slap, but once she recovered, she was furious.
“How dare you hit me?”
Veronica screamed, raising her hand to strike me.
At the crucial moment, Alpha Derick grabbed her hand, stopping her. “Alpha Derick, Eileen hit me. Are you going to protect her?”
