Reckless Marriage Unyielding Love

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Logan’s voice held a hint of pride when he mentioned the Lindstroms had invited them over, a subtle show–off move.

In the hack of her mind, Mikayla guessed, “Jaxon must have invited Winona’s family to dinner as a part of the deal 1 suggested after he blew his chance to make things right with me earlier today.”

As

they escorted Logan’s crew out, Winona lagged behind and tossed a loaded question Mikayla’s way. “You’re cool with all this, right?”

Mikayla shot back, unfazed, “Winona, just drop the act.”

The more composed Mikayla was, the more it got under Winona’s skin. Since they were kids, Mikayla had this knack for outshining her, snagging the spotlight without even trying. It killed Winona that even Jaxon had fallen hard for Mikayla while barely glancing her way.

“You can’t be this chill. Jaxon’s going to be my husband in two days, not yours!” Winona provoked.

Catching Winona’s smug face, Mikayla just gave an indifferent smile. It was the same old story. Winona could never stand to see Mikayla with something she didn’t have. Sure, Mikayla had been taught to share, especially with families. But now, Winona and her family had taken Mikayla’s goodwill too far. And the scare of the car incident that day was still fresh in Mikayla’s mind.

“You were only able to snatch him away because I didn’t even bother to compete with you” Mikayla stood her ground. locking eyes with Winona

“I bet you’re dying inside. You won’t find anyone better than Jaxon in this town,” Winona said, her tone dripping with contempt. Jaxon was the local sweetheart, a true gentleman through and through. There were few in town who could match up to him.

Mikayla turned around and faced Winona. They were almost the same height, but Winona felt pressured. She was shocked, for Mikayla had never come off this strong before.

Mikayla said, “I don’t think a man who can’t keep his urges in check is that great. Only you think he’s a prize.”

Winona spat back, “Stop pretending to be chaste, Mikayla!”

“Since you’re so generous before my wedding, I’ll make sure to return the favor at yours. Just wait” Mikayla remarked, every word sending chills down Winona’s spine. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

‘Mikayla knows! She knows it! Yes, I was the one who lured Jaxon and convinced him to have one last fling with me on that bed, all while knowing Mikayla would walk into her new house every afternoon and catch us. It’s just too bad that a car accident didn’t take her out. But who cares! What can a weak woman like her possibly do to me! This is just round one. Mikayla Your downfall’s coming, just watch. Winona’s eyes narrowed, her gaze growing more venomous as she stared at Mikayla

Jorge and Sylvia returned to the living room to see a strange man standing beside their daughter.

“Who is he?” Jorge eyed the newcomer warily.

“He’s my driver, Josiah,” Mikayla said, keeping it simple. She didn’t feel like giving away his backstory. It would just scare her folks and make them worry.

Jorge nodded and took a sip of coffee. “By the way, have you talked to Jaxon?” Since they were both Xosa’s business tycoons, he thought it was best to sort things out peacefully.

Yeah, it’s all squared away Mikayla took the glass of juice Sylvia handed her and took a sip, looking at Jorge. “Dad, I’m thinking about joining the company.”

Jorge was taken aback. “Mika why so sudden”

“And since when are you interested in the company? Sylvia churned in, looking puzzled,

Jorge and Sylvia always put Mikayla’s well–being first. They had hoped she’d avoid the cutthroat business world, so they

fostered her artistic side ever since she was small

“Firstly, I want to make my own mark, and secondly. She paused for a while and continued, “Huxley joined the company,

didn’t he

Jorge reasoned. “Look, I respect your ambition. But let’s steer clear of Huxley’s matter.

Sylvia nodded in agreement. “Your dad’s right.”

Mikayla understood the depth of her parents love. She was their treasure, and they’d always tried to keep her safe. But… “Mom, Dad, I’m not a little girl anymore. she insisted, setting her glass on the coffee table with a serious look.

Jorge thought for a few seconds, his hands on his knees, looking like he was about to make a big call. “Alright,” he finally said. “But if you’re done with working, just come back and keep your mom company”
