Chapter 581
Nathan relented once more, saying, "Alright, have it your way." Nathalie obediently followed Nathan, leaving Miranda sitting in her wheelchair, staring blankly into space. Was Nathalie going to help her or not?
The next morning, as soon as Miranda was up, the nanny informed her, "Madam wants you to accompany her to the psychiatric hospital today." Miranda was thrilled. She rarely took the time to dress up, but today she did, even asking the kitchen to whip up some pastries. She wanted to make a good impression on her daughter, Greta, and treat her to something special. This was a testament to the extraordinary nature of a mother's love.
When Nathalie saw Miranda, her eyes landed on the gift box, and she couldn't help but smirk. "You really do have a soft spot for Greta, don't you?"
Miranda felt a bit awkward and said, "Nathalie, you're not wanting for anything, so I didn't prepare anything for you."
Nathalie replied, "I sure was when I was a kid. Never saw you going out of your way for me then." Miranda wished the ground would swallow her up. Finally, she shoved the gift into the nanny's hands, grumbling, "Fine, fine, it's just some leftover pastries. No need to be so stingy. I'll do without them, okay?" The nanny muttered, "It's not the pastries that Madam cares about. It's your clear favoritism towards Greta.
Miranda sighed, "I'm just a poor soul at everyone's mercy. Say what you will."
She had the air of someone who couldn't care less. The nanny was at her wit's end, "You..."
Nathalie waved her off, "Don't waste your breath. She's just an unreasonable old lady."
Miranda's face flushed with anger. The driver pulled up, and Nathalie got into the car without a backward glance. The nanny, still peeved, didn't offer to help Miranda, instead following Nathalie into the car.

she sat helpless in her wheelchair unable to get into the car. She looked pleadingly at Nathalie, who, pretending not to notice, closed her eyes as if resting.
Miranda had no choice but to swallow her pride and ask the nanny, "Could you please help me?"
The nanny, making things difficult, replied, "Aren't you just a guest living off others? Since you're not the estate's mistress, I see no reason to help you."
Biting her lip, Miranda felt the sting of her own words and had to endure the situation.

With a lazy command, Nathalie instructed, "Open the wheelchair ramp." A ramp unfolded by the car door, clearly signaling that since Miranda saw herself as merely a guest, the staff wouldn't serve her.
With no other option, Miranda struggled up the ramp. Being older and frail, it took several attempts before she finally made it, sweating and drawing snickers from the maids.

Miranda sat in her wheelchair, face cold, but before she could voice her complaints, Nathalie told the driver "We're late. Let's go." The driver hit the gas, and Miranda nearly toppled over due to the sudden motion.
Her disheveled appearance was a sight, indeed. Maybe she realized she'd need to make amends with Nathalie if she wanted to spend her remaining years with any dignity.
Reluctantly, Miranda apologized, "Nathalie, I'm sorry. I messed up before. It's not favoritism for Greta; I just feel sorry for her..."
Nathalie wasn't in the mood for excuses, cutting her off, "I don't need to know who you care about. I didn't expect your love as a kid, and I'm not holding my breath for it now."
She added sharply, "It's way too cheap."
What do you think?
