“Sir, what’s on your mind? You seem really troubled.”
For a while now, Felix had been observing how restless Lucas appeared in his office chair. When he tried to discuss things with him, his boss didn’t seem focused and often didn’t respond to what Felix was saying.
“Mr. Lucas,” Felix called out for the umpteenth time, raising his voice slightly to get Lucas’s attention and refocus it on him.
“Huh? What?”
“Why, Mr. Lucas?” Felix inquired, curious.
“I’m thinking about Deasy suddenly proposing to get married next month.”
Felix was astonished, but he smiled in response to Lucas’s statement.
“Congratulations, sir. That means you’ll be getting married soon, and you’ll officially become Ms. Deasy’s husband.”
“Yes,” Lucas replied briefly.
“But,” Felix continued, “if Deasy is proposing to marry you next month, when will you tell her about your true identity as her boss all this time? I’m sure she’ll be shocked when she finds out.”
Lucas sighed deeply, bringing his hand up to massage his throbbing temple.
“As for revealing my identity, I don’t think it’ll be that difficult, Felix. I’ll just be honest and explain. Even if Deasy gets angry, I’m sure it won’t last long. After all, I disguised myself for the purpose of completing the task my father gave me. It wasn’t intentional to get close to, let alone deceive, Deasy.”
“So, if it’s not a big deal, why do you look so troubled, sir?”
“The problem is, up to this point, my father hasn’t given his blessing. He flatly rejected my proposal to cancel the wedding plans with Devina. So how can I marry Deasy? However I look at it, I’m obligated to take responsibility. Or… should I just get married without needing my father’s approval?”Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“No, sir!” Felix exclaimed emphatically, shaking his head vigorously. He clearly disagreed with Lucas’s proposed plan. “If Mr. Lucas rushes into it, it might cause complications later on. You know how Mr. Andreas is. It’s better to take it slow, talk to him again, and explain things patiently. If he still refuses, let him know about Deasy’s pregnancy. I’m sure Mr. Andreas will eventually agree.”
Lucas nodded, agreeing with what Felix suggested. Before he could respond further, one of his phones began ringing. He saw Deasy’s name clearly displayed on the screen. Worried that it might be an emergency, Lucas quickly answered the call from the woman.
“Hello, Honey. What’s up?”
“Luc… have you finished work?”
“Not yet. Probably in a little while. Why, sweetheart? Do you need something?”
There was a pause on the phone line. After a few seconds of silence, Deasy spoke again.
“How about having lunch together? Can you make it? I don’t know why, but I really want to see you.”
Lucas was taken aback for a moment. He was sure Deasy was experiencing a craving right now. The problem was, why during working hours, and why lunch? Why not dinner together to make it easier?
“Luc?” Deasy called out when she noticed Lucas had fallen silent.
“Yes, dear?”
“Can you?”
Lucas quickly thought, trying to find the right words to respond to Deasy’s seemingly sudden invitation.
“Lunch together? Right now?”
“Yes, of course. Not next year. I really miss you and want to see you.”
“Oh my… didn’t we see each other every day? I even drove you to work this morning, didn’t I?”
“Yes, I know. I’m just surprised by this sudden desire to see you. Maybe it’s because of your child.”
Lucas sighed deeply, trying to provide some understanding so that Deasy wouldn’t insist. The issue was, Lucas had a meeting scheduled right after the lunch break. It would be troublesome to change clothes and appearance.
“How about a video call, dear? I still have some work to finish, and I’m worried you’ll have to wait too long.”
“I don’t want to,” Deasy refused, sounding a bit spoiled. “I want to see you right now.”
“What if your friends see us together?”
“Let them! I don’t care anymore. Besides, I’m already at a restaurant. You just need to come here. After lunch, you can drop me back at the office. Easy, right?”
“Alright, you wait for about ten to fifteen minutes. I’ll tidy up some work, then come to meet you.”
“Okay, honey. I’ll wait for you.”
After ending the call with Deasy, Lucas got up in a hurry. He looked at Felix with a facial expression that was hard to decipher.
“What’s going on, sir?”
“Do you know what, Felix? Deasy asked me to meet her at a restaurant right now. She’s craving something and wants me to join her for lunch.”
“Oh my goodness. But isn’t there a meeting at two o’clock? Are you sure you won’t be late, sir?”
Lucas shook his head. He didn’t seem to be concerned about that at the moment.
“That’s not what’s bothering me, Felix. It’s that I have to meet Deasy, which means I have to change clothes and my appearance.”
“Well, what can you do, sir? Just be patient.”
Felix wanted to laugh but also felt sorry for his boss, who was undoubtedly struggling with repeatedly changing his appearance to maintain his disguise.
Meanwhile, at the restaurant, Deasy sat leisurely. While waiting for Lucas, she chose to play with her phone.
“Excuse me, Miss Deasy.”
As she was waiting, suddenly a man approached her. He introduced himself and stated his intention for approaching her.
“Yes, can I help you?”
The man smiled politely and spoke.
“I apologize for the intrusion. Someone wishes to meet and talk seriously with Miss Deasy. Can I request a moment of your time?”
Deasy’s eyebrows furrowed reflexively. She was curious about the identity of the person who suddenly wanted to meet and talk seriously with her.
“Who wants to talk to me?” she inquired.
“It’s me who wants to talk to you.”
Deasy turned her head and was startled. From her eyes, she recognized the very familiar figure now standing right in front of her.
“Mr. Andreas?”
