“Do I really need to go to the obstetrician?”
Deasy entered Veronica’s car with a grumpy expression. She had just come home from work, and before she could even lie down and rest, her friend had come and insisted on taking her to the obstetrician for a check-up on her baby’s condition.
Deasy admitted that Veronica was a good and caring friend, but she really didn’t want to go to the obstetrician.
“It’s necessary. So that you know exactly how your pregnancy is progressing.”
Veronica nonchalantly fastened Deasy’s seatbelt for her, then continued driving to the hospital.
Upon arriving at their destination, Veronica wasted no time and ushered Deasy into the obstetrician’s office. After waiting for about ten minutes, they were called in and invited to enter the examination room.
“Please lie down here, so I can perform the examination,” the obstetrician requested as she prepared for the procedure.
A nurse helped guide Deasy to the patient’s bed. She was allowed to lie down comfortably, and a moment later, the doctor began the examination.
“At this point, the pregnancy is already at eight weeks. Usually, in the early trimester of pregnancy, a pregnant woman’s mood can fluctuate frequently. You may often feel dizzy, easily tired, nauseous, and even vomit. Once again, it’s normal.”
“So far, I’ve only felt weak and easily tired, doc,” Deasy confirmed.
“Nausea? None at all?”
Deasy shook her head.
“Fortunately, none at all. So far, I haven’t experienced any nausea or vomiting.”
“Good. Later on, I’ll prescribe some anti-nausea and anti-vomiting medication just in case. I recommend that you don’t overexert yourself and try to avoid stress during this early trimester. Exercise is allowed, but don’t overdo it.”
“Besides all that, what else usually happens to pregnant women, doc?”
Veronica, sitting in a chair nearby, also inquired. Despite having been pregnant twice, she was still interested in knowing what Deasy should do during pregnancy.
“Pregnant women usually get sleepier. Eating habits can also be unpredictable. Sometimes you’ll lose your appetite. Sometimes you’ll want to eat constantly. The same goes for the desire for sexual intercourse. In this trimester, some pregnant women lose their interest in sex. But some others might actually have a higher sex drive than usual. So, from the beginning, I want to remind you. Having sex is allowed during pregnancy, but the frequency should be reduced and done with caution.”
The doctor provided a detailed explanation. Before leaving, Deasy was prescribed various medications and vitamins that she would need to take regularly every day during her pregnancy. It was indeed a hassle, especially for someone like Deasy, who had a habit of forgetting and wasn’t diligent about taking medications at the same times.
“After entering, I reminded you to change clothes immediately. Then continue with dinner, take your vitamins, and go to bed right away. Don’t think too much, especially staying up late. It’s not good for pregnant women.”
Upon arriving home, in front of Deasy’s apartment unit door, Veronica gave another warning, making sure that Deasy followed all the doctor’s recommendations.
“Yeah, all done. You’re quite a nag, you know.”
“Even if I’m nagging, it’s for your own good.”
“But you don’t have to keep repeating it, Ve.”
“So you won’t forget. Well then, I’ll go home now. If you need anything, just call.”
Deasy let Veronica say her goodbyes and leave. Just as she closed the door tightly, the doorbell rang. Deasy reluctantly opened the door and found Lucas standing there with his characteristic smile.
“Oh my, Lucas. What are you doing here again? Can’t you leave me alone for just one day?”
Lucas maintained his smile. Choosing to stand in front of the apartment unit’s door, he handed over what he had brought specifically.
“Don’t worry, Ma’am. I won’t stay long. I stopped by to bring you dinner. There’s a heavy meal and some snacks in the paper bag I just handed over. As far as I know, pregnant women get hungry at night. So, I intentionally bought this to make it easier for you later.”
Lucas’s intentions were genuinely good and caring. But for some reason, he always seemed to be in the wrong in Deasy’s eyes.
“I’m not hungry. And again, you don’t have to act so caring, Luc. No matter what you do, your efforts won’t melt my heart.”
“I like bread, and you like doughnuts. I’m being half-dead attentive here. And yet, you couldn’t care less.”
“There’s a tomato in the beetle’s food. I really couldn’t care less, Bambang.”
“I’m Lucas, Ma’am. Not Daniel, Nerd, or Bambang. I really like changing people’s names.”
“Well, the bottom line is you don’t need to waste your time pretending to be caring.”
Lucas smiled again. He was not at all offended by what Deasy had just said.
“No need to be arrogant, Ma’am. I’m not doing this for you.”
“Well, then?”
“For my child, of course. After all, you’re carrying my flesh and blood. So, let’s work together for the next nine months.”
Deasy blushed. Lucas had managed to embarrass her.
“Okay, that’s enough, isn’t it?”
Lucas nodded.
“Alright, Sweetheart.”
“Well then, hurry up and leave.”
Deasy seemed to be shooing him away. She had even prepared to close her apartment unit’s door.
“There’s a fridge next to the chopsticks. Babang Lucas asks for permission to leave, please don’t make his heart sad to the point of crying out loud.”This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
“Lucas!”
“Hehehe…” Lucas grinned. Before Deasy could get angry, he bid farewell once again, although Deasy didn’t care at all.
“I’m going home now. Have a good night’s sleep. Hopefully, you’ll dream of me tonight.”
“Damn it!”
