Chapter 57
Chapter 57 A Blood Soaked History
So that’s what happened to the village..
The villagers, it seems, suffered a fate befitting their cruelty, frozen in a perpetual twilight.
Serves them right. Those bastards really have a
thing for burning innocent young women at the stake, it would seem.
I slam the ancient book shut in my hands, satisfied with my findings. At least now I know a little more about the castle’s history, and Anya’s backstory. and the village.
I can live with that. That’s enough digging for today I’m going to go and find my mom. This time, I’ll make sure I don’t leave without saying goodbye. I’ll explain my reasons, and we’ll part on good terms, Hell, maybe she and Konstantin will even come and visit me sometimes in California.
I’ll say goodbye to Seraphina – I’m feeling a lot less resentful of her behaviour, now that I know her story and I’ll see if one of them can transform into giant bat and fly me to California via that sky portal I went through with Aleksandr after mom’s wedding. Getting an Uber would be easier and a hell of a lot less terrifying, but I don’t think any cars are coming anywhere near this god awful spooky castle.
As for Aleksandr, I don’t see the need to say goodbye to him. I don’t ever want to talk to that creep again.
I should probably find Luka before I leave, thank him for looking after me, for saving me time and time again. And I should tell him the truth, about the real reason for the mate bond, and Mircea’s spell. He’ll be devastated, but it’s not right to lead him on like this. He needs to know the truth.
“Oh Laka, I’m sorry…” I murmur to myself under my breath as place the heavy tome back on the bookshelf.
“Sorry for what? A low sexy voice growls in my car, just inches away.
