Chapter 51
The pain hit hard again. I screamed. Dr. Rosenbaum gave me a gown to change into. The nurse led me to the bathroom. As I lifted my shirt above my head, liquid started dripping down my legs. "Please don't say that is blood," I said out loud. I held my eyes tight, too scared to look.
"No Luna," the nurse said, rubbing my back. "Your water just broke."
It was too soon, I thought.
"They are strong," Sasha said. "They need more space to grow."
"What do you mean?" I thought as another wave of pain hit. This one was so hard. The nurse called Vincent in to pick me up and put me in bed.
The doctor and nurses started an IV and hooked me up to a multitude of monitors.
I could see all three heart rates beating. The wires around my belly showed when the contractions hit. I was now 3 minutes apart and according to the doctor, 8 cm dilated.
It was almost time to meet my pups. Vincent was so scared he kept pacing back and forth.
"Vincent, please come hold my hand." I asked. He came over and did so. Just as my next contraction hit.
Drake had left to keep everyone updated and to handle business from the duel. I still didn't know how everything had ended.
Dr. Rosenbaum came back in to check me. "I see you have progressed to 10 cm and 1 minute between contractions," he said. "Soon you will feel the urge to push."
It hit shortly after and I pushed. I continued to push for 6 hours. I was exhausted. Dr. Rosenbaum said my blood pressure had climbed to a high rate and, due to the size of me vs. the pups, he might need to do emergency surgery.
I begged him to give me 2 more hours. After that time elapsed, I agreed to the surgery. The babies would be fine, but my health was now in jeopardy. I was scared I would die like so many others had.
"Promise me if it is between me and the babies, choose the babies." I cried as they started the meds. To control my heart rate, which was already too high, they were going to put me out. Vincent replied with "I promise."
It was the last thing I heard before it went dark.
Peace in the darkness until I saw the light. I recognized Selene right away. Sasha was behind her. Behind her were two pups. One was dark grey, the other was white with black paws and nose. "Hello Fillian," Selene said to me. "We have been waiting for you."
"Are they ours?" I asked Sasha.
"Yes," she said, but looked sad.
I turned towards Selene. "I promised Millie I would ask you to provide her a loving mate."
"She has a hard but amazing story ahead of her. Take peace, it will end happy." Selene said. "Filli, this isn't a happy visit," Sasha had said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"We are dying," she said. "Selene wanted us to be able to meet our pups."
"No, I want to meet my babies." I said. I turned on Selene. "Haven't you put me through enough?"NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
"I let my people make their own choices. I just lead them to their options." She responded.
"Why? I have yet to find peace. My journey is not walked. I have another path to decide what to do about my father." I responded.
"You had the chance to kill him at the house but didn't," Selene said.
I thought about that. I could have easily killed him once in the hall but I didn't.
"Why does his life mean my death now?" I asked.
"It is the way of our kind to follow the path. Your path brought you here." Selene said. "Take your time with your pups, you have very little of it left."
I sat down in the green grass lifting both pups to my lips kissing them.
"I love you both," I said. They both licked my face. As tears dripped down. I can not die just when I was to live. I needed to see my babies. To marry Vincent; to see my girls happily mated. I could not give up. I closed my eyes and put the pups next to Sasha. I stood and looked it Selene.
"You are right. Our kind follows the path. I am only part of our kind," I said.
I closed my eyes. "I called my mother and her mother before her."
I started to reach down to my witch's side. The side I was not raised on but was half none the less. The side that brought me more issues than I wanted but the side that had led me here. "Filli, stop," Selene said. "There will be consequences. Are you sure?"
"From here on out I forge my own path." I said and continued to chant.
"I call on all my ancestors and wicka both living and those who have passed before. Breath life into me your sister, daughter, and mother. Give me the power to live and the life I deserve."
Suddenly, my mother emerged in the haze. She was so beautiful. She held her arms out for me to hug her.
I ran to her. "My dear, it is about time you tapped into our side," she said with a smile. "I wish it was sooner."
The only thing that can stop this now is blood for blood. I looked at my pups. I could never. "Choose me," Sasha said. "One of us needs to be there. They will accept a wolf's blood."
"No" I said. "Neither side has been there, just you. I will be selfish and not give you up."
I thought about why I was here in this place. My aunt was already dead but all this was due to one person, my father.
"I pray to my mother of wicka and the goddess of the moon Selene. Hear my pledge and take it into consideration. I pledge that if given life before the next full moon, I will give you the blood of the man that defiled the natural way of creating his own line of royals. I will kill my father or die trying."
It was the only way I could think of this could work. My mother smiled. "It would be good to see your father in the afterlife. We accept your request. Until the next full moon."
She gave me one more hug before disappearing. Selene wad not as kind. She looked angered by the events.
"It seems you don't need me anymore," she said.
"You are wrong goddess," she said. Selene looked at me curiously. "I am two-sided. I need both to be whole." "There will still be consequences," Selene said.
"But will we all live?" I asked. Selene reached down to pick up the pups.
"You will all live, for now," she said.
With that, it was dark again. I slowly heard Vincent crying.
"Come back to me baby," he said. "You have to wake up and meet your beautiful babies."
He must have placed one on my chest. The small baby began to cry and I slowly opened my eyes.
