Chapter 43
A month had past and I still was not allowed outside this room. Meals were sent to me and I trained physically each day in the room to pass the time.
On occasion, my father or aunt would make an attempt to talk with me. It normally ends the same way. With them leaving angry. I am not going to give in yet. I knew there was another path.
Sasha was back and strong. She talked with Marcus every day, which gave me some hope that I would one day escape and return. She told me Vincent was getting weaker from my extended absence. He had also destroyed two office desks and scared his new Gamma Reagan half to death.
I was beginning to really show. I hid it well most times by wearing a robe around my family's visits. I was not sure how long it would take Drake to notice. I knew I was running out of time before they would all know about my pup.
Drake was my daily keeper. We had grown a sort of bond. He told me all about his family. Both his parents had died in a war with humans, and he had a younger brother and his sister whom, as he thought, were killed by the King of wolves. She was ten years older than him. It seems like she was somewhat his hero and helped raise him.
He had not found a mate but had a potential chosen mate waiting back home if this war did not take him.
I told him about Katie, Millie, and Vincent. How the Violet Moon pack was a wonderful group and took me in. He would look sad when I talked about the future and returning to them.
The only thing I was super happy about was that my morning sickness had subsided. Sasha said she could tell the pup was ok and strong, so I didn't need to worry about that.
I had come up with a half plan, but it would require Drake's full trust, which I didn't know I had. Over the last month we have spoken many times. I feel we are closer to being friends. My plan required him to not only trust me but to want the truth more than revenge.
I did not know if our new friendship would work. I prayed to the goddess that this would work. I had chosen today to let him in on my secret so he might feel a bit more connected.
All I needed was to be out of this room long enough to use my magic. Drake could make this happen.
A knock at the door meant breakfast was there. The Omega left it on the table and went on her way. That meant I had a few hours of physical training and getting ready. I will not give him the option to tell my father of my plans.
If this goes south, I will have to attempt to kill him or die trying. Being locked up in this room meant I hadn't shifted in a month, but Sasha promised she was ready if needed.
I did my daily workout and headed for the showers. The cool water flowed over my body as I washed my stomach. I felt the round bump and a little flutter went up inside. The pup was moving at first. I thought I was imagining it, but it is the third time I have felt the pup.
How I longed to be home and share these things with Vincent. If everything goes well, that will be tonight.
I got ready, wearing leggings, a sports bra and a baggy tank top. If I needed to fight, I could easily move in this.
Not long after, there was a knock at the door and Drake came in with lunch. He sat at the table, and I joined him. I was too nervous to eat.
"Are you not hungry today?" he asked. "Or is it you are going on a hunger strike?"
I smiled at him. "Neither I said." My look turned serious. "If I tell you something, can you keep it a secret?"
He gave me a look. "I know you must be telling my father about our conversations," I said.
He smiled. "I tell him only what he needs to know. So if it is in my power to keep it, I will."
I nodded and let out a deep breath. Instead of telling him, I planned to show him. I stood up and removed my tank top. In just the sports bra and leggings it was obvious. I confirmed it by putting my hand over my belly.
He looked at me in shock. "How far along? Are you feeling well?"
His quickness to know my wellbeing was a comfort. "I am just over 3 months. For a wolf, that is halfway. I have not had access to care or vitamins, but I think my pup is OK."
Drake looked up at me. "How would you fight in this condition? This will ruin the whole plan."
"Drake." I said to get his attention. I could see him reworking whatever plan was in his head. "I need your help. It will not be an easy thing to ask but I told you this in the hope you could trust me."
"I can't believe he would have given his daughter Wolfbane had he known. It may have killed your pup." Drake turned to me and took my hand.
I closed my eyes. "Drake!" I yelled, trying to break him from his roaming thoughts again. This time he looked at me.
"I must get out. I have a plan and it requires you. I need you to trust me. Can you do that?"
He just stared at me. "I cannot give up this war. I must revenge my sister."
"If my plan goes as I plan, you will find that peace and much less blood on all sides will be spilled. I know that is something you want. There are not many dragons left after the human war. I would hate any more of them to die wastefully." Drake started pacing around the room and came to a stop directly in front of me. I held his stare. His amber eyes bore into mine. I felt like he was burning inside my soul. When he looked away he said, "tell me your plan."
Another breath of relief. Sasha stopped pacing in my head. She was on the ready to shift if we needed to fight. She now retreated as this was not her favorite plan. I just knew it would buy us time and get us back to Vincent, both things we needed.
I had Drake sit back down. "Drake, I know what you desire is revenge for your sister. I can give you that and the truth of her death. I can also promise access to Cash. I believe we can do this by individualizing the fighting and making behind-the-door deals. To do this I must get back to Violet Moon and I want you to come with me."
His shock was to be expected. "I am not saying you will be able to kill the king straight off, but if he has truly done the evil things, you have said I will do it so the fight you desire will happen."
So far so good. "How do we get to Violet Moon and not get caught escaping? I will need to tell my whole team here to flea before we are found traitors." Drake questioned.
"I understand. We will do it tonight when you bring me dinner." I said. "Do you think you can get most of them to go on a trip home for supplies? The others prepare to leave for Violet Moon."
"I think your father will suspect something if we are all gone," Drake said. "He has people outside your door at all times to ensure that you never step foot outside this room."
"I know. I have gathered that the runes on the walls keep my magic in check. I suspect once I am out of the room that my powers return and I can make people sleep."
"You suspect?" Drake said. "What if you are wrong and your powers don't come back?"
"Plan B. You need to kill me." I said with little hesitation. Drake stared at me. "It will be the only way to make sure he knows you are on his side. If I am dead, this will end. Katie is a royal but with only one power. He will not be able to use her as a weapon. I am his only choice. You must promise me."
"I promise." He said and wrapped me in a hug and left.
"You think he will do it?" Sasha asked.
"Which part?" I responded.
"Both?" she replied.
"I hope we will not need plan B, but yes, I think he will," I said.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
