Mysterious Little Wife

Chapter 44 I Need Some Rest!

Chapter 44 I Need Some Rest!

Mrs. Garrison?

What on earth was he talking about?

Had he gone mad?

Sam's smile widened as he saw the horror and shock in her eyes.

"Creak!" It was the sound of a key opening the door.

Lacey immediately reached out to push Sam away.

Sam, however, managed to grab her hand and pressed it against his chest. "Are you scared?"

Lacey's bright eyes flashed with panic at this point. She cast a subconscious glance towards the door.

Sure enough, the door opened at that precise moment!

It was only then that Sam slowly stood up.

Both the nurse and Lillianna were taken aback.

"Mr. Garrison, you're here?" The nurse broke out in a cold sweat.

Could it be that it was Mr. Garrison who had locked the room?

Lillianna's lips trembled slightly. Her eyes fixed at Sam, who stood in front of Lacey's bed with a faint

smile on his face.

She began to panic.

Why was the door locked?

What had just happened between them?

The nurse lowered her head, walked out, and shut the door when she realized the atmosphere was off.

Meanwhile, Lacey turned her head and gazed out the window.

She frowned, unable to comprehend what Sam had just done.

She had, in fact, schemed against him.

When she returned to the Carter house, she had no idea whether Sam was there or not.

She knew, however, that Bailey would not listen to her.

That man had always been arrogant.

If she resisted, she would undoubtedly be abused.

Therefore, she placed her bets.

She placed her bet on Sam's question on the remote island.

She had sent him a text message with a hint about the answer.

And if he wanted answers, he would surely come to her.

Even so, she wasn't entirely sure he would turn up.

She wasn't dumb enough to let Bailey beat her to death, though.

Sam might not show up in the worst-case scenario.

Still, there was one more way she could put Bailey's fire down.

She would not, however, take that step unless necessary!

......

"Sam." After a few seconds of trance, Lillianna trembled called out the name of her beloved man.

"You're here?" Sam responded faintly. He walked over to the sofa and sat down.

Lillianna frowned slightly, becoming wary.

Then, she hurried to Lacey and asked with concern, "Lacey, how are you feeling now?"

Lacey smiled as she turned to face her. "I'm still alive!"

Lillianna froze at the reply. "Lacey, dad realized he had been wrong. He's sorry for acting so

impulsively. Please forgive him."

She handed over her cell phone.

"Look, this is what dad wanted to tell you."

Lacey looked at the message on Lillianna's phone, and she lifted a slight smile.

"Go back and tell him that I understand he's doing it for my good. I won't be mad, and I won't make him

angry again. After all, he's still my father, isn't he?"

Upon hearing that, the corner of Lillianna's mouth twitched. She grew irritated as she glanced at

Lacey's smug face.

"Lacey, if you need anything, just let me know. Dad isn't well, and it's not convenient for him to be here

this late. Just tell me if you need anything!" Lillianna hurried forward and pulled Lacey's covers up.

Lacey raised her eyebrows. "Really? I do feel a bit hungry. Why don't you get me some oatmeal!"

"What? What did you say?" Lillianna was stunned.

"I'm starving, and I'm craving oatmeal." Lacey looked at her with a bright smile.

A grimace appeared on Lillianna's face. She was only putting on a show.

How could Lacey actually request her to do stuff?

Nonetheless, Sam was seated on the sofa at the back. She didn't dare lose her temper.

"I'm not quite familiar with this place. Why don't I order you some takeout?" Lillianna switched on her

cellphone.

Lacey didn't say anything, nor did she refuse.

Shortly after, Lillianna put down her phone and said, "I've ordered what you wanted. It'll be here soon."

Lacey beamed as she nodded and looked at Lillianna. "Lillianna, I appreciate your visit. Also, Sam,

thank you for sending me here. Well, it's time for me to take some rest. You should both leave."

She didn't want to face Lillianna or Sam at all.

She was irritated with Lillianna.

Meanwhile, Sam frightened her.

"You want us to leave now?" Lillianna was slightly perplexed. She doubted that Lacey would behave.

Smiling, Lacey replied, "Yes, of course! Look, I'm perfectly fine. I grew up in the country and am strong.

I'm sure I'll be out of the hospital tomorrow. Haven't you already ordered me food? Well, why don't you

love birds go home? I need some rest!"

Lillianna finally grinned, content with her response.

And when turned to Sam, she froze.

There he sat with a calm expression. Yet his eyes were as deep as a sea of stars, making it impossible

to read his thoughts at the moment.

No one would dare bother him.

Lacey brushed them aside and laid down, covering herself in the quilt.

What an unusual way to get out of trouble.

Sam smiled faintly, then stood up.

"I'll send you home." He put his arm around Lillianna's shoulders and led her out.

"Creak!" The door was quietly closed.

Lacey lifted the blanket and stuck her tongue out at that exact moment. "What a scum."

She quickly put on her shoes and jumped out of bed.

She was eager to check on Alina but unsure if she had awoken.

The message Lillianna had just shown her wasn't Bailey's apology.

Rather, it was his promise to her and the Saunders family.

Thank God she hadn't endured the whip in vain.

"Sam."

Lillianna and Sam were on their way out of the hospital.

Even when he held her, she could feel his hands were cold.

He seemed to have an indifference that kept others a thousand miles away.

"Yes?" Sam looked at her with no emotional changes in his eyes.

Lillianna's mouth twitched ever so slightly. She shook her head and said, "No, it's nothing."

Perhaps she was too tired and overthinking things.

After all, he wouldn't have embraced her if he had been cold to her.

"My mother's birthday is next Wednesday. Don't forget to invite your entire family over, okay?" Sam

deliberately emphasized the word "family".

Lillianna hurriedly said, "Yes, I've been so preoccupied with work lately that I almost forgot about Auntie

Tilly's birthday. Don't worry. I'll definitely throw her a big surprise!"

In fact, it wasn't the first time she had celebrated Tilly's birthday.

She knew her preferences.

However, due to Lacey's arrival, she had almost forgotten such an important matter.

"I'll have the driver send you home. I have things to do." With that, Sam waved his hand and instructed

the driver.

"Where are you going?" Lillianna asked subconsciously.

Sam's obsidian gaze was drawn to her. His demeanor was icy, and he remained quiet.

Lillianna's heart skipped a beat when she saw such a look. She shouldn't have asked him such a

question without permission!

"I'm just worried about you. It's getting late now. You should go back and rest too." She lowered her

head and got into the car without saying anything more.

The car had just droved away when Asa called.

"Mr. Garrison, there's a traffic jam here. We'll be there in five minutes." Asa said over the phone.

"Okay." Sam hung up the phone and lit a cigarette.

"Ah!" A familiar voice rang out suddenly.

When Sam turned around, he spotted a familiar figure who had apparently collided with someone else.

"I'm so sorry." Lacey hastily apologized.

The hospital where Alina was staying was two blocks away from her. She was planning to go over and

visit.

Who'd have guessed she'd run into someone in such a hurry?

"Hey, aren't you, Miss Lillianna?" It was a couple she had bumped into. They knew Lillianna, which

wasn't a surprise as young people nowadays were obsessed with the internet and rumors.

Lacey was startled. "Lillianna?"

"Aren't you Miss Lillianna? Or are you, Lacey Carter?" The couple asked again, frowning.

"I'm—" Lacey didn't know how to answer the question.

"Didn't you say you wanted some rest?"

A warm breath came close to her ear just then.

Lacey shuddered in terror and turned her head to look behind.

What she saw left her dumbfounded.

"Haven't you left—"

She stammered.

"It's Sam Garrison!" The girl in the couple yelled.

Her scream immediately attracted many people.

"She's right! It's Sam Garrison and his fiancée!"

In fact, Lillianna and Sam were well-known among youngsters. Some even started taking pictures

using their phones.

Instinctively, Lacey covered herself with her hands.

His fiancée?

What a joke!

She had nothing to do with him!

Gradually, a crowd of more people gathered around.

"Mr. Garrison, I'm a reporter from New Media Company. May I ask why you and your fiancee are in the

hospital? Is she pregnant?"

A reporter who had just gotten out of the hospital noticed the two and dashed over.

Lacey was so stunned by the question that she couldn't help but drop her hand.

What kind of question was that?

"That's right. Mr. Garrison, what brought you to the hospital? Your fiancée is wearing a hospital gown.

Is she not feeling well?" After hearing the news, another media reporter raced over as soon as

possible.

In the sight of the gossipy faces of those entertainment reporters, Sam remained expressionless.

"Miss Lillianna, what happened to you?" The reporter turned the microphone to Lacey as Sam didn't

respond.

Lacey frowned and said in an unhappy tone, "I'm not—" She paused before finishing her sentence.

She couldn't reveal her identity.

Otherwise, everyone would jump at the chance to find out why she and Sam were together!

She would undoubtedly be notorious the next day!

Of course, she didn't have a good reputation, to begin with.

But she knew that Bailey would be outraged.

He had just promised the Saunders family a good home and that they'd only make more money than

they had before. He'd also promised to cover all the losses the Saunders had faced over the past few

days.

It would be harmful to the Saunders if she exposed her identity now.

Her mind was flooded with thoughts in a matter of seconds.

She cocked her eyes sideways and glared at Sam. Hadn't this man already left?

What about Lillianna? Where had she gone?

Lillianna was like a chewing gum that clung to Sam at all times.

She couldn't have left so early, could she?

Meanwhile, Sam had been deafeningly quiet the entire time. He lowered his gaze to Lacey's face,

which was a mix of emotions.

His otherwise anxious mood suddenly eased.

"Miss Lillianna." The reporter called to her again.

"I'm sorry, but I believe everyone has misunderstood. I've been on vacation in Vlakron for the past two

days and am not used to their climate. I experienced stomach pain when I returned home. As a result, I

came to the hospital." She smiled politely.

"I see. Miss Lillianna, since your engagement to Mr. Garrison, have you given any thought to your

wedding date?" Another reporter inquired.

Lacey frowned. How could she possibly know when they were getting married?

She gave a gentle smile and stared fondly at Sam. "Well, as far as marriage was concerned, it all

depended on him. I don't think I'm at liberty to tell you right now. If there's any more news, we'll let you

know as soon as we can!"

She knew that the reporters would soon be making headlines.

Meaning, she had to be careful with her answers so that Bailey didn't get a hold of her.

Therefore, such an answer as she gave must be the right one!

"When do you want to get married?" Sam lifted a smirk unconsciously and approached Lacey.

"What?" Lacey looked at him quizzically. What did he mean by that?

"Move out of the way! Move out of the way!" Just then, Asa was seen running over and pushing

through the crowd. He came up to Sam and formed a shield around him. "Mr. Garrison!"

"Mr. Garrison, do you mean that as long as Miss Lillianna agrees on a wedding date, you two might get

married at any time?" The reporter went on to ask.

"What do you think? Hmm—" A low chuckle escaped his lips. His husky voice had a charm that could

seduce a woman.

Sure enough, women around him shuddered at the sound of his trailing voice.

However, Lacey was not bewitched by him. Rather, she became wary.

What on earth was he trying to do?

"What are you thinking about?" Sam smiled. He then leaned up close to her ear and whispered, "You're

the one who started the game. Therefore, it shouldn't be difficult for you to end it on your own!"

Due to Asa's obstruction, no one heard what Sam said.

To others, it looked as if the two were talking intimately.

Some even pictured them in a romantic moment.

Lacey's eyes grew cold. She reached for his collar and warned him in a low voice, "I advise you to take

me away now. Otherwise, things will end badly for both of us!" All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

The sister's affair with her brother-in-law was bound to make headlines the next day.

They would undoubtedly be the target of everyone's scorn.

"You can't fix this mess. You likely won't be able to stay in South City tomorrow. As for me—"

A faint chuckle was proof enough that no one would dare speak out against Sam's status and power.

Lacey let go of his shirt in astonishment. She looked into the man's eyes as if they were coated with

ink, dark and deep.

Outrageous!

What a disgraceful act!

Who on earth could be more shameless than him!

Still, what he said was the truth.

Indeed, everyone would only chastise her.

Taking a deep breath, Lacey lifted her smile again. Then, leaning against him, she pretended to say,

"I'm tired. I need some rest."

Sam's smile widened as he stared down at her.

How could he possibly help in ending the game?

He hadn't had his fill of fun yet!

"Tired?" Sam chuckled. "But didn't you just say you wanted to go for a walk?"

Lacey frowned and looked at him in disbelief. What was this man trying to do this time?

She'd given him a way out. Why didn't he follow?

Sam stared at Lacey silently for a couple of seconds, and the smile on his lips brightened. "What did

you just call me? Didn't I tell you not to be a stranger? Call me Sam."

Lacey bit her lips tightly. She grabbed his arms, her face contorted with the agony of humiliation and a

heavy burden, and said, "Sam, I'm tired. I. Need. Some. Rest. Now."
