Chapter 57 A Trap
The next second, Alan had stood up.
Lexie subconsciously backed away.
Alan approached step by step, his voice extremely cold, “What? The tonic is not to your liking? Didn’t eat it?”
“Or do you not even know about this?”
Alan choked her and pushed her hard against the cabinet door with a loud ‘thud’.
Lexie gave a startled cry, hissing ‘whimper’ extraordinarily helplessly.
Looking at the woman under his hands with her face twisted, a pair of beautiful innocent eyes filled with tears, Alan was expressionless.
He hated it when people lied and did it so clumsily.
“Am I being too lenient with you, making you think you’re doing all these little tricks under my nose with impunity?”
Lexie shook her head with a ‘whimper’ and her face turned red.
“Say, where have you been today?”
[Nowhere.]
“Is that so? You didn’t go anywhere, you just disappeared into thin air for a whole day?”
When Alan’s hand made a strong effort, Lexie tilted her neck to show a pained expression, and her hands held on Alan’s arm, gesticulating haphazardly.
It was her instinct to survive.
“It’s something else you’re planning’ with Peter behind my back, isn’t it?”
[No]
Lexie shook her head desperately.
Alan swept all the tea cups and tea sets off the desk with a big wave of his hand.
There was a loud ‘clatter’ as the cups shattered to the ground, and the boiling hot tea splashed on Lexie’s feet, causing her to scream in pain, her hoarse voice echoing through the room.
Lexie was rudely pressed against the desk. Alan took out a medicine bottle from that messy table, his face as cold as frost, “Is this the medicine?”
The brown bottle was labeled with the Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group’s cough syrup, and the liquid inside shifted slightly in the light, glowing with an eerie cold light.
Lexie’s face stiffened.
[What is this?]
She hadn’t even seen this thing before.
“The medicine that Peter sent you, you don’t know what it is?”
”Mr. Alan, there are hallucinogenic ingredients in this bottle of medicine, long-term consumption will cause a person to go blind and even kidney organ failure, this medicine is not at all a commercially available medicine.”
Jack’s words echoed in Alan’s ears, and his hand choking the woman’s neck tightened with a jerk, completely choking out her already weak voice in her throat, leaving only a pair of eyes staring at him, as if they were about to fall out.
Alan’s face was ghastly, “You are so obedient to Peter, if you die here, do you think he’ll collect your body?”
He didn’t give Lexie any chance to explain at all, his big hand tightened fiercely and choked Lexie’s neck hard.
Lexie struggled desperately, but it was all for naught.
Looking at the woman under his hand, her face gradually turning pale, tears sliding down the corners of her eyes, and her panic-stricken appearance, Alan’s brow furrowed tighter and tighter.
After a long while, he let go of his hand.
The force on Lexie’s neck suddenly disappeared, and almost a survival instinct made her break free from Alan’s shackles and she fell to the carpet, coughing desperately.
Alan squatted down in front of Lexie, holding the bottle of medicine in his hand, “Drink it.”
Lexie covered her neck and made a ‘whimper’ sound, not even having the strength to explain.
“I thought you said it was an aphrodisiac.”
Alan lifted her chin, forcing her to tilt her head up to look at himself, his other hand bringing the bottle to her mouth, uttering out one word, “Drink.”
Lexie’s shoulders shuddered, and her body went cold as she shook her head helplessly and tried to step back.
Alan pinched her cheek and forced it down without waiting for her to swallow.
The bitter medicine continued to seep down her throat and her nasal passages were filled with it.
Lexie struggled desperately, and the brown potion spilled all over her body, but she still got a large portion of it poured in.
The bitter, pungent potion reverberated in her mouth, and the fishy taste made her stomach turn over instantly, coughing and dry-heaving at the same time, but she couldn’t throw up anything.
Soon a burning sensation hit her stomach and she fell to the floor in pain, curling up into a ball.
Alan looked at her from above, indifferent, “In the future, if Peter sends a bottle of medicine over, you’ll drink a bottle, and that’s the downfall of your smartness.”
Lexie’s ears buzzed, unable to hear what Alan said at all, and her eyes were blur until they were pitch black.
She didn’t know how long it was before she felt someone pick herself up and heard the sound of arguing again.
When she woke up again, she was in a hospital room.
She opened her eyes and met with blinding white.
“You are awake?” An unfamiliar female voice came from the side.
After looking for a while, Lexie could barely make out that it was a nurse.
“She is awake, go get Dr. Stewart.”
“…”
Dr. Stewart?
Kevin Stewart?
Lexie lay on the pillow, gradually remembering the events before she fainted.
Alan forced her to drink the medicine.
Soon there were hurried footsteps at the door, and Kevin arrived.
After doing the examination, Kevin let her lean on the bed, “You have to be hospitalized for observation for the next two days, walk less, your body is still weak, and you have to be given injection every day.”
Lexie’s face was pale.
[You saved me?]
Kevin nodded.
Last night he had felt something was wrong when he heard the argument in the study, and by the time he barged in, Lexie was already lying unconscious on the floor.
“The ingredients of the bottle of medicine you drank have been assayed, it is a chronic medicine that is not available in the market, overdose will cause kidney organ failure, fortunately it was found early, otherwise you would have been dead.”
Wasn’t it an aphrodisiac?
Lexie clutched the quilt tightly, her mind buzzing.
If she remembered correctly, last night Alan said that the bottle of medicine was sent to her by Peter.
Did Peter want her to put this medicine in Alan’s food and want him dead?
That was why Alan was so angry.
Seeing her face pale, Kevin asked, “Lexie, tell me the truth, did my cousin force you to drink the medicine?”
Before Lexie could nod, a cold, deep voice rang out from the door.
“That bottle of medicine has the label of their Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group on it, who the hell is trying to get anyone to drink the medicine? Kevin, I think you’re mistaken.”
Seeing the visitor, Lexie was viciously stunned.
The remaining anger on Alan’s face had not yet subsided, and he gave Lexie a cold look when he entered the door, “With this bottle of medicine, I can sue you for intentional murder.”
Kevin frowned, looking at Alan and then at Lexie.
For a long time, Lexie clenched her teeth.
[I drank the medicine myself.]
“Why?” Kevin was filled with disbelief.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Now that things are clear, Dr. Stewart, you can go out and mind your own business,” Alan unceremoniously gave his expulsion order, staring closely at Lexie, “I still have something to say to her.”
Upon hearing this, Lexie’s face was ashen.
Kevin wanted to say something else, but Jack had already pulled the door open, “Mr. Kevin, please.”
As the door closed, the ward was so quiet that a pin dropped on the floor could be heard.
As she watched Alan approach, Lexie’s breathing suddenly increased, and her back sticked against the bed, unable to retreat.
“Scared?”
Alan snorted, his pitch-black eyes were like two ice knives, “When you joined forces with Peter and tried to drug me, how come you weren’t afraid?”
