Chapter 237
The endless ringing on the other end of the phone left Selena feeling puzzled and anxious. Something felt off, and she couldn't shake the unsettling feeling creeping over her. Nibbling on her lip, she decided to call Dr. Campbell instead. He was Josh's doctor, and she figured he would have the answers she needed.
Callum answered immediately, his voice warm and reassuring. "Hey, Selena, everything okay?"
"Dr. Thompson, how's Grandpa doing today? Is he feeling alright?" she asked, trying to sound casual.
"Josh is doing well today. I just finished my rounds, and his surgical wound is healing nicely. No need to worry too much."
So, everything was fine with Josh. There was nothing to worry about. But when Everett had answered the phone earlier, Selena had caught the word "hospital," which had set her on edge.
She had jumped to conclusions, thinking it was about Josh, but clearly, it wasn't. Suddenly, she remembered the gossip from earlier-Lola, the makeup artist, had mentioned something about Margot being pregnant, with complications, and staying at a high-end private clinic. Could Margot have been the one who called? And did Everett go to see her?
Selena's gaze fixed on nothing in particular, her hand clenching reflexively.
Noticing the silence, Dr. Campbell gently prompted, "Selena? Are you still there? Everything alright?"
She snapped back to reality,
steadied herself, masked her
confusion, and replied as calmly as she could, "I'm fine. I just have some other things to handle. Thanks for taking care of Grandpa. I've got to gonow, goodbye, Dr. Campbell."
She hung up, not wanting to linger and risk revealing her inner turmoil.
Taking deep breaths, Selena tried to calm herself. Her relationship with Everett had finally started to blossom, giving her a sense of hope she treasured deeply.
She had met Everett during the darkest period of her life, right after losing her parents. He was struggling with his own demons, battling depression and isolating himself in his mansion, using the piano as his only escape.
It was purely by chance that she walked by his mansion and heard his piano playing. The music was filled with a fierce determination, a longing to defy fate.
She was moved and wanted to help him find happiness. Having played the piano herself as a child until her parents passed away, she knew the power of music. To encourage him, she visited a music store daily, playing and recording uplifting tumes, leaving the tapes at his doorstep. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Eventually, he emerged, standing among the flowers in the backyard, basking in the sunlight. She stood at the gate, captivated by the sight of the handsome young man, her heart racing and cheeks flushing- feeling unmistakably known as falling in love.
Not only did her music help heal Everett, but his courage and will to live also helped heal her.
Yet, they never really got to know each other. She thought her silent support was enough until one fateful night when some local troublemakers targeted his mansion.
Thankfully, she sensed something was amiss and called the police just in time, averting disaster. However, the incident triggered a heart condition in Everett, prompting his family to rush him back to Newport.
Before he left, Everett came to see her, marking their first real meeting. Even as a teenager, his looks were enough to make any girl's heart flutter. Looking at her, he asked, "Were you the one leaving the music tapes at the door?"
