THE MISUNDERSTANDING
The rest of the dinner was full of laughs, chuckles, and giggles. She was actually very fun to be with. The personality she portrayed at home was quite different from the impression she gave off when I saw her at the airport about an hour ago. I enjoyed every bit of her company.
*LILY’S POV*
That morning, I’d gotten up and returned to my usual duties still plagued by the thought of what happened between I and Jarod. I tried very hard not to let anyone notice that I wasn’t myself. Customers flooded in, I made them food and served them, the staffs all worked in sync to be on time, etc – the normal morning routine.
While I was chopping lemon, my phone which I had in the pocket of my apron buzzed. I took out my cooking gloves to answer the call.
“Hello,” I said on picking the call.
“Miss Lily Grayson?” the caller called.
“That’s me,” I affirmed.
“Well, I’m calling with respect to the baking contest you entered for…,” my heart raced a bit. ‘Did I lose?’ I thought. “Congratulations!” I smiled, “you’ve been selected as one of the top ten contestants to participate in the next round,” the called said.
“Thank you sir,” I thanked the fellow repeatedly even after he hung up, out of excitement. After the last phase, my ray of hope became very dim; I thought I screwed myself over completely.
After I hung up, the expression on my face and how I actually felt changed drastically. I no longer felt disheartened or sad; I was now very excited.
In the feeling of excitement and thrill, the very first person I thought of sharing the amazing news with was none other than Cayden. I called him to share the good news with him but he didn’t pick up.
“Pick up the phone, mister, pick up,” I held the phone to my ear and heard it ring on the other end, but no one picked. Woohoo!!” I exclaimed dramatically. After he didn’t pick up the third time, I kept the phone back in my pocket and returned to slicing the lemons, humming my favorite song a bit loudly.
Overjoyed, I could not wait to break the good news to Cayden who encouraged me not to feel down by what happened the last time. During the late hours of the morning when the morning rush hour was finally over, I excused myself and went over to Cayden’s.
On getting to his house, I pressed the doorbell a couple of times before getting a reply. When I heard the knob move from inside, I was prepared to make a dramatic entry.
“Heyy!!!…” I exclaimed and paused abruptly when I saw a very light-skinned beautiful lady wearing a shirt-gown – which I recognized to be Cayden’s – which exposed her long straight legs from the portion inches above her knee down to her feet. Her long dark hair flowed from both sides of her head giving her front view a demanding look.
“And…who might you be?” she asked smugly.
I was completely frozen. ‘Who’s this beautiful lady standing in front of me wearing Cayden’s shirt?’ I thought to myself.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Hello?” she waved her palm over my face and jerked me back to reality. “I…,” just when I was about to speak, I heard Cayden ask, “who’s there?”
“I don’t know, one weird looking measly lady,” the lady jeered.
I looked over her shoulders – as she was a bit taller than I was – to get a proper view of inside the house and found Cayden shirtless with his hair looking all messy.
“Lily?” he called out when our eyes met. “You know her?” the lady turned around and asked him. “This my house, it’s obvious she came to find me,” he retorted. “Right,” she said.
“Lily?” he walked to the door looking excited. “What’s up with you? Come in,” he beckoned
‘Come in?’ I was already drowned in thoughts of what exactly the duo were doing – that made the lady wear his shirt, leaving him shirtless with only his slacks on, his hair looking all messy like they were actually making out – to accept Cayden’s gesture. My heart sank in my stomach as those thoughts crept in; the excitement I felt switched to feeling of betrayal in that instant.
If I went in, I was definitely going to be ‘the odd one out’ so I just decided to leave instead. “I…I … I’m…,” I stuttered.
“Why’s she stuttering?” the lady asked rudely. “Let me handle this,” Cayden said. “Fine.” She walked back into the house.
“Lily?” he turned to me and called mildly.
“Umm…it’s fine,” I finally voiced, “I could come back some other time,” I concluded.
“But you haven’t even told me the purpose of your visit.”
“It’s fine. Seems I came at the wrong time.”
“But Lil….” I wasn’t going to stand there any further and listen to him. I walked out immediately.
*CAYDEN’S POV*
Brielle and I were to have a meeting with the CEO – our boss – that morning. We got the day started around 6:30 in the morning, individually – in out various rooms.
I got off bed and started my morning prep by brushing my teeth and taking a shower. After taking my bath in the mornings, I had a special responsibility to fulfill towards my hair – hair care routine – that keeps it glowing; that morning was not different. I usually had the routine after bathing as it was supposed to be done after washing my hair. I put on my slacks and in order not to get my special shampoo on my shirt, I hung it by the bed instead of wearing it.
I applied all the products I used for the routine and let them stay on my hair for about thirty minutes. Thirty minutes later, I went into the bathroom to wash my hair.
After washing my hair, I picked up the hand dryer to dry it. I turned off the dryer occasionally while drying as usual, and heard Brielle talking to someone. Supposedly, since it was my house, whoever she was talking to was to be my guest.
Knowing how sassy Brielle can be, I kept the dryer and dashed out the room without a shirt and my hair looking all messy.
“Who’s that?” I asked on getting to the living room and seeing Brielle talking to someone who stood outside.
“I don’t know, one weird looking measly lady,” she jeered with her back against me, still staring outside.
I walked further away from the passage way into the living room to see who it was for myself. Lo and behold! It was Lily.
Shoot! The scene I and Brielle portrayed looked really suspicious. I could sense from the look she had on her face, she felt the same way. It was then I noticed that Brielle was actually putting on my shirt!
