I stared at the roof while sighing deeply.
‘I love you so much too, Jace. That hasn’t changed.’
But when I woke up she was gone and just left a note that I would follow our agreement to cancel her restriction. Maybe I hurt her too much. Maybe I was too greedy and selfish. After all that happened, I want everything to be ok as it is? Umami lost because of me and then I wanted her mother to forgive me immediately. I want ok right away? I am selfish in thinking that I thought everything would be ok right away.
I could feel Margot’s longing for me last night. I feel like she misses me too. But I know that’s not reason enough for her to forgive me right away. If her departure is the way for her to completely forget what happened, I will give it to her. I’ll let her go first so she can think. Maybe when she’s away she will realize that I am really regretted what happened. She might be able to think better when we are not together.
I picked up the cellphone and called the attorney to cancel Margot’s restriction. He asked me if I was sure and I just said YES. I also told him to let his lawyer know that everything is ok and that she can leave the country and anywhere.
I did not notice that I was crying already. All I can think about now is remorse. But no matter how much remorse I have, there is nothing I can do. What happened is irreversible. I’ll just let Margot do what she wants. There, she is happy so I will give her what she wants. We already had a conversation so I can’t take it back. She agreed to stay with me so I will give her what she wants.
Three faint knocks grabbed my attention. I had no plans to open who it was but didn’t want to stop knocking.
“Wait!” I barefoot approached the door and opened it. My eyes widened in shock when I saw the woman outside. I was swallowed by saliva and the pounding of my chest was even stronger than the pounding of my chest when I saw Margot. It was as if cold water had been poured on me and my foot was nailed to the ground, which was slowly softening.
This is the look and feel of a Dy you don’t want to see. Her eyes narrowed as she stared sharply as she stood still. It is like there is a laser on it and anytime I will be shot and die right away.
“D-Dane?”
“Will you come with me back to Bulacan or will you be burned inside this shack?”
“I-I will come, now that I don’t even have anything with me. It’s not important what is left here.” I hurried out of the shack and ignored the fact that I was barefoot.
“Take your important things, I will wait for you in the car.” She turned and left.
I didn’t take anything except my wallet with IDs and the cellphone then came out again. I left the shack to Mang Pilo and did not explain. I just said that something suddenly happened. ‘That’s Dane and it’s hard to break.
Dane and I sat side by side in the back of the car. She took her driver with her. I don’t speak while just sitting. How can you speak if Dane is with you? I feel like I’m just opening my mouth and her fist will hit my face.
“Until when are you planning to hide us?” I swallowed first and looked at the driver. He also seems nervous while looking at me.
“I’m just fixing myself, Dane.”
“Fucker,” she said softly but firmly then looked at me. My neck looks like a stiff neck because I just look straight but my eyes are on her.
“D-Dane I am —-”
“Don’t talk.” I never spoke again. Dane is the kind of person who doesn’t want to show the staff her anger or she’s angry because she doesn’t want them too afraid of her. And because her driver is here she tries to stay calm. But for sure when will kill me when the two of us left. She took me straight to her office and we found there three calmly seated.
“Welcome back, sucker.”
“Welcome back to hell, man.”
“I thought you weren’t coming back, dumbass.” As if I was my choice, it was Dane who came after me.
“Until when you are planning to hide on us, huh?” Dane started. I looked at her holding the bridge of his nose. I feel like I want to run. She just looks calm because she is calm but when she touches the bridge of her nose, there is only one meaning then — she is angry. She was really angry but tried to calm down.
“Dane, I just want to fix myself.”
“From running away of everything?”
“Dane, what’s—”
“I don’t want to hear any explanation. You are AWOL, your punishment is suspension for six months without salary. And don’t tell me you will sell the share or you will leave the BC ad if you don’t want me to file a case against you. I won’t hesitate to put you in jail fucker.”
“You didn’t mean it, Dane.”
“When did I say I didn’t mean?” I looked at the three and looked back at Dane. No Dy was joking so I swallowed. Make fun of Dane about other things, not just when it comes to business and work-related. “I understand your situation, Jace — but not this time.”
“See, sucker, reconcile with Margot.”
“I remove her restriction and she can leave the country with Blaze.” Then I looked at Blaze.
“See, fucker, we know something that you don’t know. And we have no right to tell it to you. All we can say is reconcile with Margot if you want your life to go well.”
“We met last night and talked and——” I paused. “She doesn’t want me anymore.” The four of them looked at each other and Dane spoke again.
“You have a reason to fight her and take her back. Talk to her and re-build your family,” Phoenix said.
“How? She really doesn’t want to. I think it’s ok for her to continue with her life without me.”
“Listen, fucker, we’ll give you a clue. When you went to Blaze’s house what did you notice weird?” I frowned at Dane’s question and thought.
“Joker has two babysitters.”
“What else?”
“Two strollers and crib.”
“What first came to your mind when you saw that?” I’m thinking too much, I can’t imagine why there is two children’s equipment there and Joker’s babysitter has two but —.
“Blaze is wasting money, Joker is the only one with two things.” One by one someone threw a pen at me.
“You’re really slow.”
“Your brain is really slightly used.”
“You’re really stupid.”
“Enough,” Dane whispered. “Can you, Jace, think about it.”
“What am I going to think? That’s the only reason I know.”
“Jace, what do think I was doing in Margot’s room when she came out when you were talking?” Yes, I also notice that.
“Blaze, I thought of that too. Why did you go in there?”
“Think, motherfucker.” Why did he go in there?
I immediately stood up when I thought of something. Fuck. Does that mean Margot is cheating on me? Does that mean she’s hiding something from me? Is that why she doesn’t want us to get back together?
“Blaze, do you have a relationship with my wife?!” Blaze threw me a notebook, followed by a box of tissue.
“Stupid!”
“Take that back to Cagayan and drown in the sea.” Annoyed Phoenix said.
“I’ll do that, sucker,” Zeus replied. Dane turned the swivel chair and faced me.
“Give her a surprise visit.”
“Why would I do that?”
“Margot hid something on you, and when you still make that stupidity of yours exist —-” I turned my head because she bit my senses. “You will lose your family forever. I will repeat, fucker, YOUR FA. MI. LY.”
My family?
She can say that my wife because I only have Margot.
