Part 16
Okay, to be wholly truthful. Zoe did try all her possible best to stay away from Alex after the game on friday but It was just too hard to do. She tried to avoid him in the school hallway but he did stop Bella and them since Bella now strolled around school with them.
The dance practice hall was the worst, there wasn’t any place she could hide from him there. When he did talk to Zoe! She would pretend like she couldn’t hear him but after a while she found herself laughing at his jokes or thinking about stuff he said earlier during the day.
So she gave up every attempt to avoid Alex. After a bit of thinking, she didn’t come out with any serious reason why she shouldn’t be friends with him. He had promised never to bring up the night at the party which gave her total relief.
Exactly three months after she and Alex met and they have been friends, great friends actually. He was very easy to talk to! She tried hard not to get uncomfortable sometimes though. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
She had a hard time trying to stare at his eyes without blushing like a total idiot. That is the problem of having a gorgeous friend.
School is a bit better now for Zoe. maybe because she wasn’t being picked on like before, and they all knew her boyfriend was among the hottest boys in school.
Alex hasn’t asked Bella out since the game which Zoe was delighted about. Although, it was left for her to call and ask them why Alex wasn’t asking her out, very dehydrating.
Dora was pretty the only one who knew Zoe and Alex were friends, Bella and Luke had no single idea. Alex tried to talk to Bella always to get to talk to Zoe which was weird. It wasn’t like she purposely wasn’t telling Bella or Luke but she didn’t just want them getting the wrong idea.
‘Wait, what’s the wrong idea?’
She was positive that Luke wouldn’t mind. Why should she take a chance though? Luke had never seen them together so she had no excuse to explain herself.
It was July third. Alex and Zoe were taking a walk around the field track. Bella was doing a science project with Rico, and Luke was homesick. To say Rico has been avoiding Zoe ever since she started dating Luke was very odd.
So, it was just her and Alex. The weather was starting to get colder as they walked close to each other. ”Have you watched “teen wolves?” Alex asked.
”Nope,” she replied, Zoe, wondered what movie was teen wolves? ”Come on, a classic werewolf movie acted by humans.” Alex Said. “Why would they act a movie about us, are we that popular around the human world?” Zoe asked, making Alex nod.
”What about scream?” Alex asked.
”Nope, I haven’t!” she replied. ”Why on earth don’t you scream?” she asked, noticing the smile plastered on his face.
She couldn’t help but laugh at his expression as he joined her. ”I guess it never interested me like the rest of the movie! Humans are quite stupid in the movie, the dude wasn’t even fearful and they called it a scary movie.” Alex said.
”He isn’t scary and it is classic?” She asked, walking behind Alex. She noticed him ignoring her and walking in silence.
”Alex?” she said walking closer to him. ”Yes?” He said smiling.
”Are you ever going to give me any useful details about you?” she asked.
Since they have been friends! Alex hasn’t given her any valid information about himself.
Anytime, she would ask a personal question he either stops talking or turns the conversation back word. Even at this question, he didn’t reply back.
She stopped walking and stayed stagnant to get his attention, not taking one step further. ”We are supposed to be friends, you know?” Zoe said. He turned to look at her as if he was waiting for something, she looked straight back at him doing her best not to do something stupid. Like blushing.
“Fine! What do you want to know” Alex asked in a defeated tone. Zoe smiled, feeling proud. She shifted through all the questions lined up in her head and decided to go on the simplest one. ”What is your full name?” She asked, this is not an impressive question but still something she wants to know.
He was so secretive that she wondered if his real name was Alexander Gilbert. ”Oh no, not telling you that.” Alex said while shaking his head.
”Why not? That’s like the simplest question.” she complained again. ”It’s embarrassing,” Was Alex’s reply. ”Do you mean to say your last name?” she asked.
”No, my middle name.” Alex said.
”Oh, now I’m curious to know. Please tell me and I promise not to laugh at it.” Zoe said.
He stared at her considering whether to tell her or not.
”Okay fine, my full name is Alexander Lees Gilbert.” he said, looking at her face. ”kees?” He is worried about “kees”
”I have heard worse middle names than that,” she said, lighting the mood. ”What about dirk? chipsy? arty?” she asked. ”What about those names Alex? Yours ain’t even bad!” she muttered and he looked relieved that she didn’t laugh.
They kept walking. ”Since I answered one of your questions you have to answer mine, and we can go on and forth?” He said. Zoe knew that It seemed only fair that she agreed. ”Okay, so go ahead.” she said firmly.
”What is your middle name?” Alex asked. Zoe rolled her eyes before responding. ”Zilpah?” she said. ”Zoe Zilpah Zander?” He says under his breath. Zoe instantly gets a shiver but she doesn’t think it is from the cold.
”Your turn!” Alex said.
There was only one question on Zoe’s mind for a long time but she hesitated before asking it! She didn’t want to offend him or something. So she tried a different question.
”Do you have any siblings?” she asked Alex. ”No? I have none.” His reply came out simple. ”What about you?” Alex asked me.
”Same I don’t,” she replied. Zoe decided to ask the first question she had been wanting to ask. “Do you seriously have asthma, Alex?” she asked but everywhere went quiet for a moment.
”That wasn’t a question!” Nathan pointed out. ”Well, I was wondering if you had asthma or a bad one?” She asked. His lips were pursed and he was looking at the ground.
“Alex?” He ignored her and went close to a tree branch. He plugged a branch noticing an ant all over it, he tried to explain what it was doing there but Zoe wasn’t paying much attention. He turned to scare her with it but Zoe crossed her arm over my chest and put a frown.
”Are you trying to avoid my question?” she asked Alex. ”No, listen Zoe! I have asthma. There isn’t really any kind of asthma-like the bad one but I have it under control.” Alex said, giving her a comforting smile.
”And It’s true when I told you that an evil witch laid a curse on me!” Alex said. ”What is the meaning of that?” she asked, feeling lost. ”It’s a curse where you don’t recognize faces,” Alex explained.
“Why? Did something happen for her to have done that?” Zoe asked.
“It happened when I was little!” Alex responded. ”How did you recognize me?” Zoe asked, feeling lost.
”I don’t know how that happens but I recognize everything about you, your hair being short, you are light in complexion, your voice and you are beautiful.” Alex said, making her heart ache of what he must have been going through.
”I take my medicine and have my inhaler close by always!” Alex said. ”So, I’m fine! ” Alex continued.
They stared at each other as tears tried to pickle down her cheeks but Zoe held them back. ”I’m really fine,” he says with a half-smile.
She took his words as Zoe smiled back, The school bell rang. She stared at the school then back at Alex. ”we should go already?” she said.
”One sec….” he said as he picked an ant from her neck! His hand brushing her ear sent flutters to her stomach, it was like a fluttering butterfly doing a happy dance inside her paunch.
She ignored it as they both left for class.
