Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Floretta’s ember eyes became wide open as they glistened with light. Then she promptly jumped down from the couch and trotted into the house, straight toward the wardrobe. As she ran, she shouted, “I’m going out, Franny!”
Francesca Green, who had been taking care of Floretta since she was little, followed after her. “Why are you going out right now, Ms. Floretta?”
“To find Daddy!” Floretta went through the wardrobe to find the clothes she wanted.
“Didn’t he promise yesterday that he’ll come back early during the night to celebrate your birthday?”
“I don’t want him to celebrate my birthday. He’s going to find his girlfriend and ditch me.” As though the girl was throwing a tantrum, she pulled out and threw the clothes inside the wardrobe all over the place. When she found a more formal-looking red dress, she positioned it in front of her body and showed it to her caretaker to see. “I want to wear this to meet Angel.”
“Who’s this… Angel?” Francesca was confused, though the name sounded familiar to her. I think I heard Floretta mention it a couple of times before.
However, she didn’t take the girl’s words seriously, as all adults often do when listening to what children say.
Floretta’s eyes sparkled when she spoke about Angeline. “She used to be my idol, but now she’s my idol and my future mommy!”
Because the spokesperson arrangement was canceled on the spot, Angeline and Nancy were surrounded by reporters as they tried to exit the building. Even after half an hour, they still couldn’t leave Golding Group. Nancy was protecting Angeline as she called the driver. “Block A, the entrance of Golding Group. Quickly.”
Meanwhile, a dozen microphones and cameras were pushed so close to Angeline’s face that they were almost kissing her.
“Is the reason Starlight Jewelry terminated the contract because of your pre-marital pregnancy from five years ago?”
“Did you suddenly return to the Sorelle family to fight for the inheritance?”
“Did you give birth to the child, Angeline? Who’s the father?”
“I heard your relationship with your family worsened and was the reason you got exiled. Is that true?”
The barrage of questions the reporters launched at Angeline landed squarely on her old wound.
Her eyebrows furrowed tightly as she remained silent.
Years of experience in the entertainment industry had taught her that the best thing she could do at the moment was to say nothing. If she spoke too much, she might accidentally say something wrong.
Nancy continued to repeat the same things as she blocked the reporters from getting closer to Angeline. “Sorry, but we didn’t come here to sign a contract. This is a private trip. Please make way. We will be making no comments today.”
The contract-signing ceremony was pretty significant, so a lot of reporters were there. Both Nancy and Angeline were getting squished pretty badly by the sea of people.
Just as Nancy was wondering what to do, a voice amplified by a loudspeaker to the point of being deafening was suddenly heard from behind the reporters. “Hello!”
The sea of reporters suddenly froze for a moment.
“Look! Denise is kissing her rumored boyfriend in the car! This is a rare opportunity! If any of you manage to capture a picture of it, it’ll be going straight to the headlines!”
A middle-aged woman’s voice was heard from the loudspeaker. Not only that, she repeated the same thing three times in a row in a mechanical manner.
Just as everyone was still dumbfounded about what was going on, a black sports car abruptly started its engine in the open-air parking space in front of Golding Group’s entrance. A man and a woman were sitting in the driver’s seat and the passenger seat. The woman in the passenger seat was using her coat to cover up her face, and her figure looked like Denise’s.
“It’s Denise!” an unknown person shouted. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
The wave of reporters promptly chased after the sports car with their cameras.
Angeline was still taken aback when the edge of her dress was tugged.
When she turned around, she saw a girl with hair buns clutching the corner of her dress. The girl was wearing a red strappy dress while looking as though there were stars in her eyes. She shushed Angeline before whispering, “Follow me.”
“What’s going on?” Nancy was still dumbfounded as she stared at the reporters chasing after the black sports car. Then she waved her hand behind her, hoping to touch Angeline to get her to move. “Let’s go, Angeline.”
However, her hand wasn’t hitting anyone, which prompted her to turn around in confusion. Where’s Angeline? Where did she go?
Concurrently, Angeline and the girl she met once before reentered Golding Group. They avoided all the reporters and the people who gathered in the lobby.
Angeline let out a sigh of relief after she hid inside a stairwell. Then she pulled out her phone and sent a text message to Nancy while thanking her savior. “Thank you. Was the loudspeaker your doing as well?”
“You’re welcome!” Floretta raised her watery eyes and stared at Angeline with a bright smile. “The person who was shouting earlier was my caretaker, Franny! The people inside the car were actually Wallace and his girlfriend.”
“It was not Denise?”
“I asked my caretaker to lie to the reporters! He was unlucky to have been sitting at the entrance at that moment.” The girl stuck her tongue out, looking lively and adorable. “However, my daddy said that Wallace is a philandering man and that he changes girlfriends faster than he changes clothes! So, there’s no need to worry about him.”
Angeline wasn’t interested enough to ask who the man Floretta mentioned was, though she did vaguely understand what happened. With a confused look, she stared at the girl. “Why are you helping me?”
“Because I can’t let them bully my future mommy!”
That stunned Angeline as she stared at the girl with innocent eyes and dressed like a character from a children’s cartoon.
For some reason, she suddenly thought about what Joseline had said about her child still being alive. If the child were still alive, they’d probably be as old as this girl right now.
