Chapter 52 Getting Attention
Chapter 52 Getting Attention
"Okay."
Linda mulled her boss's orders over in her head. Was her boss just trying to get Luz's attention these
few days?
Luz had thought that it would only be the two of them venting to each other in the KTV, but instead,
when she arrived, she found a bunch of strangers.
"Don't be nervous. These are all my colleagues. Let me introduce them to you. This is Kai..." Mia patted
her on the shoulder to reassure her. After the introductions, she pulled her to sit on the sofa.
"This is my best friend, Luz Boone."
Luz could only nod and smile at the solemn introduction. "Hello, everyone."
Now that she was here, it would be inappropriate for her to leave now. She sat awkwardly beside Mia
and pinched her out of sight of everyone else, this woman had lied to her.
Mia was completely unfazed. She leaned over and whispered, "The man beside you, he's one of my
partners at the law firm. What do you think? If you can't take Declan, how about giving him a try?"
"Shut up!"
Luz immediately lowered her voice warningly. "You're a lawyer, not a matchmaker."
"Okay, I'll shut up. I'll go and choose a song. How about your favourite, 'Love Deal'?"
"..."
Luz blushed as she resisted the urge to wring her friend's neck. She was infamous for her inability to
carry a tune. Usually, she sang just to vent her anger. Mia must really hate her colleague if she
intended to commit murder by her singing.
About ten minutes later, the awkward atmosphere eased a lot. Although Mia's colleagues were all
dressed smartly in suits and dress shoes, they were actually more easy-going than they looked. Luz
gradually began to relax, even though she still refused to sing.
A few drinks later, Luz stood up. "I'm going to the bathroom."
"Let's go together, in case you lose your way and decide to go home." Mia stood up with her and they
headed to the bathroom together.
In the corridor of the KTV, a few strangely-dressed men were acting suspiciously. They were led by a
man that had a scary-looking scar on his face.
"Where's the target? I was promised cash on delivery. This better not be a trick."
The scarred man held a small metal box in his hand, and his expression was full of impatience.
"Boss, don't worry. There won't be any problems. I'm familiar with this KTV," one of his cronies told him
confidently. If this deal goes through, they won't have to worry about money for the rest of the year.
"Bullshit, I have a bad feeling about this." The man who was called the boss spat, frownining uneasily.
He had been doing this for a few years, and he had learned to trust his instincts.
Just as he was thinking to cancel the deal and retreat first, he saw the men he had left as lookouts on
the street run in. "Boss, someone called the police, the cops have surrounded the KTV. Should we
make a run for it?"
"You idiot! Running out with drugs is a sure-fire way to get the death sentence. Get rid of it in the toilet!"
Hearing this, the scar on his face became even more prominent. His instincts were right, as always.
They were in big trouble.
"Get rid of them all?" His men were a little reluctant. These drugs were worth a lot of money. It was a
shame to flush them all down the toilet.
"It's your first day doing this? Do you want money or your life? Hurry up!"
He gave him a kick before running to the toilet with the case.
Luz and Mia finished their business in the bathroom. "Let's make it clear first. Don't lie to me about
these kinds of things in the future."
"If you want to achieve your purpose in coming back this time, you should make more friends so that
you can have more ways in the future."
"I know you're doing this for my own good. Thank you."
The Boone family was her parents' lifetime work. She couldn't save it seven years ago. For the past
seven years, she had been training herself and learning how to manage a company so that she could
get her family business back.
"No need for thanks."
Mia rolled her eyes and the two of them went out of the bathroom. They had barely taken two steps out
when a man barrelled right into them.
"Watch where you're going!"
Luz rubbed her shoulder. He should've watched where he was going even if he was really in need of
the bathroom.
Instead of apologizing, she was met with a murderous look.
"Grab them!"
Only then did she take a closer look at the man who had spoken. The scar on his face was horrible, but Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
the look in his eyes confirmed to her that he was not a good person.
"What do you think you're doing?" Mia reached out and pulled Luz behind her in a protective stance.
"What do you think we're doing? Shut up and listen to us, then maybe we'll let you go. You guys, deal
with the stuff."
After the scarred man finished speaking to Mia, he urged his subordinates again.
Mia was a lawyer. Even though she did more divorce cases, but she was still well versed in criminal
cases. She understood immediately what these men were doing.
This KTV was one of the top-ranking clubs in North City, so naturally, it became a good place for shady
businesses.
Her fears were confirmed almost immediately by a loud voice outside. "Listen well, drug dealers! You
have been surrounded. Surrender and cooperate with the police!"
Luz's heart skipped a beat. It was just her luck to get involved in a criminal confrontation. She tried to
calm herself down, hoping to convince these men. "What use do you have for two women? Just let us
go, we'll pretend that we never saw anything."
But obviously, the drug dealers had no other choice. They knew that their only chance to escape alive
was by taking hostages. "Shut up. Take them."
At the Maynard Family mansion.
It was almost dark when Henry arrived home.
"You're back, Master Henry. Old Madam is expecting you for dinner." The servant immediately took his
briefcase. Henry responded with a nonchalant hum and glanced towards the dining room.
He frowned when he saw an empty space at the table. Why hasn't the woman come back yet?
"Why are you back alone? Isn't Luz with you?"
The old lady always thought that the two of them were together, so she hadn't called to hurry them
home, but her grandson arrived home alone.
"No."
After taking off his coat, Henry said and sat down on his own seat.
Mia was her best friend since childhood. The two of them might be eating somewhere now.
