Chasing Back My Ex-wife

Chapter 62

Chapter 62

"I'm...I'm alright." Lucy was in so much pain that cold sweat broke over her forehead, but she still acted tough.

She never liked to show weakness or look pathetic, so she was the direct opposite of delicate women like Lizbeth.

Hearing what she said, Arthur felt like spanking her, but he couldn't bear to.

He carried her horizontally and carefully lay her down on the bed although his actions appeared to be rough. Then, amidst her indignant objections, he lifted her trouser leg.

The white bandage was already dyed red!

He looked up at her but did not speak. His gaze just grew colder.

"It just looks scary, but it's actually nothing serious." Lucy wiped away the cold sweat on her face. When she met his gaze, something made her explain to him.

Arthur was still looking at her expressionlessly, his thin lips tightly pursed. He was clearly angry.

"... It really doesn't hurt." Lucy felt slightly intimidated by his stare, and she subconsciously shot him a flattering smile. Only then did she abruptly realize that they had already been separated for five years.

Arthur was stunned by her smile, then he looked even more displeased than before.

He pressed the button by the bed to summon a nurse and a doctor to treat Lucy's wound.

Meanwhile, Maddox watched the medical staff busy themselves, and his anxious expression gradually turned calm again.

If Arthur truly treated Lucy well and Lucy felt happy, he could persuade himself to give up. However... he felt that Lucy wasn't happy with Arthur.

"Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Johnson's wound is okay now." After dressing her wound, the doctor said respectfully.

Arthur nodded and his mood improved.

That nod from Arthur was like a blessing to the doctor. He said goodbye and led the nurses out of the ward.

When Arthur had pressed the emergency call button, they had thought something disastrous had happened, but it turned out that Lucy's wound had merely reopened!

"Does your wound still hurt?" Maddox walked to her bedside, his eyes filled with sympathy.

Arthur sneered. "If it weren't for you, would her wound have reopened?"

He disliked Maddox very much, so much so that he disliked him from head to toe!

Maddox smirked slightly. "Mr. Johnson, do you think you have the rights to say that to me? If it weren't for you and your womanizing habits, Lucy wouldn't have gotten hurt in the first place!"

"It's not your business to worry about whether she's hurt!" Arthur narrowed his eyes.

Maddox was coveting his woman. However, that silly woman, who always thought that she was smart, might not even have noticed it!

They stared at each other, and the atmosphere became very tense.

Lying on the bed, Lucy had no intention of siding with either one of them.

Siding with Maddox would make him misunderstand that she was interested in him. As for Arthur, she didn't feel like helping him at all.

She glanced at the two men, who were still at each other's throats, and used a toothpick to poke into a weirdly shaped peach Arthur had cut, then tossed it into her mouth.

Seeing that the main victim didn't care, and that there was no point in confronting each other, Arthur averted his gaze first.

He picked up the fruit basket and walked to Lucy's bedside. Seeing that there wasn't much fruit left, he took out a peach and started cutting it into pieces.

Maddox gave him an indifferent look. Then, he picked up another fruit knife and started peeling an apple. His skills were excellent, and the apple peel came off uniformly without breaking off even once.

Since he was already so skillful at peeling fruits, then cutting the apple into pieces was an even simpler task to him.

As compared to his, the fruits Arthur cut looked terrible.

"Peaches contain a lot of vitamins. One peach can make up for ten apples." Arthur put the peach slices onto the plate and threw shade at Maddox.

Maddox laughed lightly. "I remember that Lucy hates people who waste food the most. Mr. Johnson, you cut more flesh off the apple than the peel. I see that only the core is left. Didn't Lucy tell you off?"

He glanced at the apple core on Lucy's plate that didn't seem to have any flesh left on it.

Just as Lucy was contemplating whether she should eat the apple or not, she heard Maddox bring up this topic. She pursed her lips. She hated this kind of tense atmosphere the most.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but she can't bear to tell me off." Arthur tossed the knife onto the plate, his sharp gaze reflecting off the blade.

Maddox put the apple slices on the plate. "Mr. Johnson, you seem to have misunderstood her. Lucy is already direct towards her friends. It seems like she doesn't even see you as a friend."

Arthur snorted. "Since eight years ago, I've been her man. How can an ordinary friend like you measure up to me?"

While speaking, he glanced at Lucy and felt a chill in his heart.

She wasn't close to him, but was close to Maddox instead?

The three of them were caught up in their own thoughts and the ward was quiet for a moment.

"I heard that Miss Byrd was behind the kidnapping." After a while, Maddox broke the silence. "What are you going to do about her, Mr. Johnson?"

He had wanted to ask this question since he had entered the ward.

Hearing this, Lucy put back the peach that had already reached her lips and said sarcastically, "Why would you ask about that, Maddox? Lizbeth is Mr. Johnson's childhood sweetheart. Other than to dote on her, what else could he do?"

Arthur put down the knife and fruit, furrowing his winged brows.

He had already said that he would deal with this matter. Why didn't she believe him?

"That's true." Maddox looked calm, but his eyes were filled with anger. "In the five years after you 'died', the Byrd family and the Johnson family had intentions to form a bond through marriage. I'm sure Mr. Johnson and Miss Byrd share a very loving relationship. Even if Miss Byrd has done something wrong this time, Mr. Johnson will not do anything about it."

Arthur just frowned and did not say anything. Sometimes, actions were more convincing than words!

Seeing that he didn't deny it, Lucy suddenly felt a little hurt. "I'm tired. I want to rest for a while."

She put the pillow down and turned her back to them.

It turned out that even if Lizbeth hired someone to r*pe her, Arthur didn't care!

"Have a good rest then." Arthur stood up expressionlessly and dragged Maddox out of the room.

Once the door closed, Maddox couldn't be bothered to act nice anymore. He turned around and left. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

"She's mine." Arthur said from behind him. His voice wasn't loud, but it sure was firm.

He didn't like other men coveting his woman!

Maddox turned around and said with emphasis, "She is a person, not an object."

"Stay away from her." Arthur's gaze was icy. If Maddox didn't know what was good for him, Arthur didn't mind toppling the Pate Group!

Maddox walked up to him and said, "If I stay away from Lucy, then what? Let Lizbeth bully her at her whim?"

Arthur's eyes glinted and his voice grew harder. "I will protect my own woman. You don't have to worry."

"Mr. Johnson, has anyone ever told you that you're such a joke?" Maddox had never been so furious at anyone before. He lowered his voice and growled, "You say you'll protect Lucy, but what have you done instead?"
