Chapter 9 Does It Hurt?
The Central Hospital.
Jane was in the middle of her examination when the door of the treatment room was pushed open. She
looked up and saw Jeffery enter with a grim expression. He was looking her up and down. His eyes
were sombre and he was silent for a long time.
Jane was a little scared by his gaze. She lowered her head and dared not look at him.
After a long time, Jeffery looked at the doctor who treated Jane and asked in a deep voice, "How is
she?"
The doctor put antiseptic cotton in his medical case, "It's not a big deal, just some trauma. I already
applied the medicine to it and she will be all right in a few days."
Jeffery breathed a sigh of relief and then asked, "Does she need to be hospitalized?"
"Not necessary. It is well to go home and rest." said the doctor, writing out a prescription. "I'll prescribe
some medicine for you. You can all go home after you get the medicine."
After the doctor had gone, Jeffery looked at Jane for a long time. He was very angry, but when he saw
Jane's injuries, his anger suddenly disappeared.
He sat on the edge of the bed, and gently tucked Jane's hair behind her ear and asked softly, "Does it
hurt?"
Jane shook her head. "No."
Jeffery felt angry and distressed when he saw her still pretending to feel no pain despite her injury.
He was silent for a long time, then he held her in his arms and gently stroked her head with his slender
fingers. He said softly, "Do not worry, I'll get revenge for you."
Jane hurriedly refused. "I don't mind. Mr. Jones. Let it go."
It was not that Jane wanted to be a good person, but because she knew she had neither power nor
influence in Boston. She was no match for Susie and Mona. They had vented their anger today, but
Jeffery had already helped her. If she spoke of it again, she would suffer in the future.
She did not know what the relationship between Mona and Jeffery, but she did not forget Mona's
reaction when she saw Jeffery's phone call, including the way she warned her to stay away from
Jeffery. She could not seek justice for herself in this place and could only try her best to protect her
safety.
Of course, she did not know why Jeffery would help her, but she must persuade him not to trouble
Mona.
"Forget about it?" Jeffery snorted. His face showed no mercy and his voice was as cold as ice. "I can't
let my woman suffer any injustice. I will not let anyone pass if they lay even a single finger to you."
Jane lowered her head, feeling guilty.
What happened yesterday was just an accident and a misunderstanding. Why would he care? What
kind of woman can't he get? How can he fall for her.
After a moment's hesitation, Jane said, "Mr. Jones, what happened yesterday was an accident. I will
move out when I find a new house. Do not take it seriously."
Jeffery looked at her emotionlessly. His soft lips slightly curved. His voice was calm and gentle, and he
did not care in the least for what she said. "Well, I do not mean it."
Jane was pleased. "Really?"
"I won't take it seriously, but you still are responsible to me."
"Uhm."
Jane was stunned. "To take the responsibility? But I do not remember what happened yesterday at all." Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Jane was so embarrassed and did not know what to do, and fortunately Aldred came. "Mr. Jones, the
medicine is ready."
"Very good." Jeffery stood up and said in a deep voice, "Notice the personnel in charge. Larry doesn't
have to go to work tomorrow."
Aldred was not surprised by his decision. He nodded and replied, "Yes, I'll inform right away."
