Chapter 372
Chapter 372
James’ pov
I have a whole lot of questions.
I couldn’t help but feel confused and lost, I wasn’t sure of what it was that had actually happened. One
moment, we were both entering the restaurant and had been able to head over to their table, only for
everything to turn around in the blink of an eye.
I shot a quick glance at Blair and felt something shift inside of me.
Something was definitely terribly wrong.
Blair was hunched over and sobbing into her palm, the sobs were hard enough to wrack through her
entire body, and the sound made my inside twist in a very bad way.
Because I was already sure that she wasn’t going to appreciate me trying to touch her in order to
comfort her, I stuck to driving her back home and keeping silent.
I had a lot of things to ask. I was now curious about a lot of things, but I couldn’t bring myself to ask her
any of the questions in my head right now, seeing as she was literally falling apart.
The fact that I hadn’t even cared about the fact that the dinner which I had been looking forward to for
days had automatically been ruined until right now was just registering in me right now.
I glanced at her once again. She wasn’t crying heavily anymore, but her shoulders still shook every few
seconds and her face was still buried deep in her hands.
She most definitely doesn't want me to see her like this.
But I don’t care. I wasn’t going to leave her tonight.
At least, not until I was a hundred percent sure that she was fine.
I focused on the road once again, channeling all my attention on the road once again. The traffic wasn’t
so much right now like it had been when I had been heading to the restaurant with Blair, which is why it
wasn’t long before I was pulling out in front of Blair’s building.
I turned off the inginator and turned around to glance at her fully. She was seated straight this time,
face emotionless. The only thing off about her facial expression now, was the streaks of tears over her
cheeks and the way tears still swam in her eyes.
Before I could speak, she beat me to it.
“You don’t have to see me inside. I’ll see myself in.” She spoke and I blinked at her in confusion.
“I’m so sorry the dinner couldn’t go as planned, it’s all my fault and –”
“What are you saying?” I found myself asking, already feeling a scowl start to form on my face.
“I mean, um… you’re angry I had ruined your plans for the evening, right?”
I scowled at her this time. “The fuck I am. Why would you even think that? Do I look angry at you?”
She bit her lip and hesitantly nodded her head.
“That’s because of you assuming that my concern right now was about the failed dinner.”
“Oh.” She mumbled. I rolled my eyes and stepped out of the car, heading to her side of the car. When I
got the door open, she looked like a deer caught in a headlight. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Uh, you really don’t have to accompany me upstairs, I can do that myself, and you know I’m not
running away or something. I’m still going to pay you and –“
“Blair, shut up, and alight the fucking car.” I said and watched as her eyes widened, and then she
scrambled out.
Her reaction right now was telling enough that she wasn’t herself right now.
I held her forearm and led the way up the stairs, her skin felt impossibly soft in my palm. She was
staring down intently and I feared that she was going to start crying really soon.
When we got to her apartment’s door, her hands were shaking too much and she dropped the keys
thrice before I grabbed it from her and got her door open effortlessly. I asked to be let in and she didn’t
even put up a fight, which was another sign that something was definitely terribly wrong.
The Blair I knew would rather eat dust than allow me into her apartment.
It was a studio apartment, and a really thin bed was in the middle of it.
How does her body not hurt on that?
I didn’t mean to judge, but as my eyes raked everywhere in a quick glance, I couldn’t help but wonder
how she was surviving all by herself here.
I glanced back at Blair to see her slumped down against one part of the wall, legs pulled up before her.
She had an unreadable expression on as she spoke.
“You done judging?” She asked and I flinched.
“I wasn’t!”
“Sure. Leave already.” She spoke next, but her words didn’t have any bite, it didn’t hold the usual snap.
“Why would I do that?” I asked and she rolled eyes and laughed, but it was a watery one.
“Because I wanna cry in private, perhaps?” She asked, blinking continuously and I felt that same
aching feeling in my chest instantly return.
“Why do you wanna cry? What happened?” I asked tentatively, taking small steps towards her.
“That’s none of your business.” She pointed out.
“But, I want to know why.”
“You don’t have to, you don’t need to.” She reminded me.
I stopped a few feet away from her and exhaled slowly.
“I- I’m worried about you, okay? You seemed like you were really troubled by something back at the
restaurant.”
“Look, just go. You don’t really care, no one does. Just leave.” Her voice broke this time and my face
morphed into a really confused one.
“But, I do care.” I said as I closed the distance between us and crouched low before her. Tears were
streaming down her face once again and her entire body was trembling.
I wanted to pull her into my arms and thoroughly comfort her but I knew that wasn’t the next step yet.
“No, you don’t. No one does.” She said through her tears and I felt my heart break.
Just what had she gone through to make her come to this conclusion vehemently?
After some more back and forth argument and then some persuasions, she ends up confessing the
reason for her tears.
Her grandma is dead.
The one who was announced on the television back at the restaurant – and that woman was from a
really prestigious family, hence why her death had been aired on television.
And, that same person is related to… Blair?
If I hadn’t been confused before, then I was more than confused right now.
There was a lot of questions I wanted to ask, and seeing Blair cry right now while hugging her knees to
herself wasn’t a pleasant sight in any way.
It was literally breaking my heart.
With that, I pushed myself to my feet and held my hand out to her.
“C’mon, get up.”
Her tear filled eyes widened in confusion. “What?”
“You’re coming home with me.”
