Chapter 33
Chapter 33
“Has the injury on your hand gotten better?” Old Mrs. Jones asked as she picked up the cup in front of her and took a sip
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Rachel shrank her hand back and smiled. “It’s just a small cut,” she said. “Thank you for your concern.”
“David arranged for Eddie to go to the pharmacy to get some medicine overnight,” Old Mrs. Jones said. “I thought the injury was serious, and I was worried all night. But now that you say it’s not a big deal, I feel relieved.” She put down the cup. There was a hint of mystery in her smile as she continued, “After all these years, it’s the first time I’ve seen David get so nervous about someone.”
It had also been a long time since David last showed care and concern for someone else. Upon hearing that, Rachel lowered her gaze and curled her fingertips slightly. The fluttering of her eyelashes seemed to reveal a slight emotional turmoil within her.
When David returned to the living room, Rachel said she need to get going.
Knowing that Rachel was going back to the hospital to complete her discharge procedures, Old Mrs. Jones did not try to persuade Rachel to stay. Instead, she repeatedly reminded David to take good care of Rachel.
In the car, David gripped the steering wheel with one hand and occasionally glanced over at Rachel.
“Is there something on my face?” Rachel asked. She found it hard to focus as David kept glancing at her.
“The outfit suits you well,” David said with a faint smile at the corner of his mouth.
Rachel’s eyebrows raised slightly. She hesitated for half a second before asking, “Were you the one who prepared this outfit?”
After Rachel finished washing up that morning, she found the new outfit neatly laid out on her bed. She changed into the outfit without giving it much thought.
She had thought that Old Mrs. Jones had prepared the outfit for her, but it turned out it had been David.
Moreover, the size of the outfit was surprisingly perfect. “Either he is used to doing such things, or… he has a cross–dressing fetish!” Rachel thought.
David noticed the scrutiny in Rachel’s eyes. A smile then appeared at the corner of his eyes. “The size is labeled on the clothes, so it wasn’t hard for me to figure it out,” he said with a chuckle.
Rachel could barely accept this explanation.
As she thought about how her undergarments were prepared by the man in front of her, her cheeks could not help but flush.
“If you encounter any trouble related to your resignation, you can call me directly,” David said.
Rachel was taken aback for a moment. She did not expect that he would remember her conversation with Old Mrs. Jones.
She smiled and said, “I can handle it myself.” This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
The car stopped at the hospital entrance. Rachel opened the car door to get out, but David held her hand tightly.
Rachel struggled subconsciously but could not break free. She let him hold her hand and asked, “Do you have anything else to say?”
“Remember to take your medicine on time,” David said as he held Rachel’s soft hand tightly. Rachel responded with a sound of agreement and tried to pull her hand out to get out of the car, but she still
could not break free.
She looked at David with a hint of embarrassment.
David said, “I have a feeling that it won’t be easy to see you again after we part this time.” His deep and magnetic voice seemed to contain endless reluctance and tenderness. It was like a spring breeze brushing the willows, causing ripples to surge in the bottom of her heart.
Although David was reluctant to let go of Rachel’s soft hand, he still released it before her patience ran out. “Take good care of yourself,” he said.
“Okay,” Rachel responded. Without any hesitation, she opened the car door and got out. Sitting in the car, David watched the slender figure gradually move away. A faint smile appeared on his lips. “She’s really a ruthless and heartless woman,” he said.
He restarted the car. As the car window slowly went up, he passed by a black Mercedes car.
As the man in the car saw David’s fleeting face, he frowned slightly. A hint of murky complexity flickered in his eyes.
“He actually came back.”
