Chapter 19
When they returned to the room, it was like Frederick had been covered with ice. He went on to take an ointment and applied it to her wound!
Fortunately, her wound wasn't open. Otherwise, she would have to get a tetanus injection!
Staring at the unconcerned man, Alicia felt a warmth from within all of a sudden. She felt that he was not as bad as she imagined. At least, he would always protect her in front of others!
He was completely different from Jeremy in the past!
With her head on his shoulder, Alicia reached out and hugged him tightly.
"Sorry, I've gotten you into trouble. I didn't do it on purpose! I wanted to accompany Grandma before I left..." Alicia apologized.
For some reason, she wanted to hug him on the spur of the moment.
Frederick's body stiffened, and his blood seemed to have frozen. For a long time, he didn't move and just stared straight at the woman in his arms who was giving him a big hug!
That's right! A woman!
A woman— an existence he hated most of his life had given him a hug when he needed some warmth!
When they exited the room, Alicia was completely on guard - once bitten, twice shy. She followed Frederick and did not touch anything that she should not. She did not speak as long as it was unneeded.
During dinner, Mrs. Clements noticed something odd. In fact, she already knew about it.
Therefore, when Hallie lost her temper and refused to eat, Mrs. Clements asked Penny to call Hallie for dinner and tell her that it was a reunion dinner.
When Hallie sat down, her mouth was still puckered, and her eyes seemed to be a little red. She greeted, "Grandma."
"Mmm." Mrs. Clements then remarked, "You are about to get married. Why do you still act like a child with your bad temper? You are so spoiled!"
As Mrs. Clements spoke, she glanced at Mr. Clements and Penny. Mr. Clements remained silent, while Penny didn't dare to say anything even though she was angry. She could only agree with her.
"Mom, you are right! I told her the same thing!"
"Halley, don't say that Grandma is being biased! When Mrs. Rahman came to visit us previously, your cat almost scratched and hurt her. You should have thrown it away at that time! It could've easily injured the delicate skin of a wealthy man's wife. Luckily, Alicia is not an outsider. What if your cat scratched and disfigured an outsider by accident? How do you want your father to deal with that? How would our family defend ourselves? Therefore, Frederick did the right thing! Let's end this matter here, and no one is allowed to mention it again! It's rare for our family to get together. Let's have a drink together!" Mrs. Clements said.
Since Mrs. Clements had put it that way, everyone had to tolerate it even if they were dissatisfied. The family began to eat, and the atmosphere became better.
When the meal was about to come to an end, Mrs. Clements voiced something suddenly.
"Ally, you are too thin. Eat more so that the Clements family will be blessed with more children as soon as possible. I am waiting! If Frederick dares to bully you, tell me, let me punish him. You don't
have to hold a grudge against him! Frederick, you have to work hard as well and treat Ally nicely, do you understand?"
Unexpectedly, Mrs. Clements mentioned this during the dinner in public. Alicia's face was so red, she felt like she could have sunk through the floor. Frederick agreed nonchalantly.
Except for Mr. Clements, the others were putting on a long face. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
The two of them didn't stay any longer after dinner. They went to Mrs. Clements's room to hang out for a while and then decided to leave earlier.
They had to go to work the next day, and the two of them were not living together before. Frederick first sent Alicia back to the Blanchard family. Surprisingly, Mrs. Blanchard had been waiting at the gate since she had gotten the news. When she saw the two of them, she got very enthusiastic as she welcomed them.
"Frederick, come in and have some supper before
you leave!"
