Chris, ever keen-eyed, spotted the bandage wrapped around Nelly’s hand. “You’re injured? How did that happen? Is it serious? Why didn’t you say anything? I would have come to visit you.”
Nelly glanced at her hand indifferently. “Just a minor injury, nothing to worry about.”
Ross and Tommy had also noticed and approached her. “Ms. Wealthy, we heard you’ve taken on Prime Investment Corporation’s project. Is it true?”
Nelly nodded, walking towards her desk. “It’s true.”
“Man, I don’t know whether to call you lucky. The owner of Prime Investment Corporation was arrested for his numerous crimes. I heard he’s a pervert! And now, his victims are coming forward to identify him. He’s done for this time.”
Nelly gave them a stoic smile. “Is that so?”
“Yeah! Although losing the project is a shame, we managed to avoid any trouble. We’re pretty fortunate,” Ross said, attempting to console her.
Nelly pretended to be comforted and nodded. “You make a valid point.”
“By the way, you missed out on a lot the past two days while you were away. Mr. Yondel got suspended for some reason. The tension in the office is high right now.”
His words reminded Nelly of Nelson’s phone call.
She promised to speak to Alpha Kilian about it but had forgotten and fallen asleep last night.
With that thought in mind, she grabbed her phone and made her way outside.
“Ms. Jackson, where are you going?”
“Ms. Wealthy?”
“I’m making a call,” she replied without even turning back. Her voice echoed in the distance.
The three of them exchanged glances. Left with no other choice, they returned to their desks.
Nelly walked to the balcony and dialed Alpha Kilian’s number.
After a few rings, he answered. “Hello?”
“It’s me,” she said.
“I know,” he replied.
Nelly hesitated for a moment. She wasn’t sure how to bring up the subject. All the words she had prepared suddenly vanished.
“Is something the matter?”
“Actually, I-”
“I’m busy at the moment. Come to my office, and we’ll talk when you’re here.”
“What?”
“I’ll have Fabian wait for you downstairs. Goodbye.” With that, he hung up.
He didn’t even give her a chance to refuse.
Well, some things are better discussed in person. This will do.
After pondering for a moment, she headed to Morris Corporation.
As expected, Fabian was already waiting for her in the lobby.
When he saw her, he waved excitedly as if he were overjoyed to see her.
“Ms. Jackson, Alpha Morris asked me to wait here for you.”
Nelly nodded at him. “Thank you for your assistance.”
“Oh, it’s no problem at all. It’s what I should do,” Fabian replied, gesturing for her to follow him. “This way, please. It’s Alpha Morris’s private elevator.”
Nelly paused for a second before following him.
As they entered the elevator, Fabian discreetly observed Nelly. “Is your injury healing well, Ms. Jackson?”
“Yes, it’s fully healed now.”
“Ms. Jackson, may I ask you something?”
“What is it?”
“Are you and Alpha Morris… are you truly his ex-wife?” Fabian asked cautiously.
To his surprise, Nelly merely nodded. “Yes.”
Fabian was stunned.
Oh my god! What on earth? I thought Alpha Morris’s ex-wife was an unpleasant woman? And uncultured, too? Aren’t I supposed to feel repulsed at the mere mention of her name? But the woman in front of me is such a catch!
What is happening? Just how high are Alpha Morris’s standards? Good Lord, what a disappointment!
Fabian couldn’t help but lament inwardly.
Noticing the range of emotions flitting across his face, Nelly asked, “Is something wrong?”
“No, nothing’s wrong. I just feel like… you’re different from what the rumors say,” he replied with a sheepish smile.
“Rumors? What do the rumors say about me?”
“That you’re extremely uncultured, dull yet combative, and entirely lacking in class. They even say that just mentioning your name would make someone nauseous…”
“Did Alpha Kilian say all of that?”
Fabian suddenly realized he slipped up and hastily shook his head. “No, no! It wasn’t Alpha Morris. It was some previous employees!”
Nelly couldn’t help but smirk upon hearing his response.
Unable to decipher Nelly’s thoughts, Fabian subtly leaned closer and looked at her with pleading eyes. “It really wasn’t Alpha Morris who said those things!”
If Alpha Morris finds out about this, I’m as good as dead! This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
“It’s fine. It’s the truth, so it doesn’t matter who said it.” Nelly wasn’t bothered by the rumors, truly.
Fabian didn’t know what to say.
Is she truly unfazed, or is she putting up a front?
Right then, the elevator doors opened with a ding. They had arrived.
Fabian held the door open. “This way, Ms. Jackson.”
Nelly followed him out of the elevator.
“Alpha Morris is currently in a meeting,” Fabian informed her, checking the time. “He’ll be finished in about half an hour. He told me to have you wait for him in his office.”
Nelly glanced at the area outside Alpha Kilian’s office. “I’ll wait out here for him.”
“Oh… But-”
“Please fetch me a cup of coffee. Thank you.”
Nelly insisted, and upon hearing her words, Fabian didn’t try to persuade her further. “Then, please wait here for a moment.”
He quickly ordered someone to prepare a cup of coffee and sent a WhatsApp message to update Alpha Kilian on the situation.
After reading the message, Alpha Kilian replied: “Leave her be.”
Once Nelly was served her coffee, Fabian looked at her and said, “I shall take my leave now, Ms. Jackson. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to find me. I’ll be over there.” He pointed to his desk.
With a nod, she replied, “Okay. Thank you.”
“Also… it’s true that Alpha Morris didn’t start those rumors…” Fabian was still concerned about that.
She chuckled and said, “I won’t bring it up with him.”
Talking to her is such a breeze!
Fabian breathed a sigh of relief. “You’re so kind and gentle, Ms. Jackson. Thank you very much.”
With that, Fabian left, feeling a weight lifted off his shoulders.
Nelly crossed her legs and picked up a magazine to read, passing the time.
As she neared the end of her coffee, she heard a voice echo in front of her.
“Nelly? What are you doing here?”
Upon hearing that voice, she raised her gaze to see Lara standing before her. A stunning woman stood by her side, bearing some resemblance to her.
