Chapter 53 Evading an Answer
Chapter 53 Evading an Answer
It was unnerving to return the book sourced by Jack instead of the previously smeared one—the
substitution has no official library stamp at all. How could she deal with the possible inquisition by the
librarian?
To her surprise, the book keeper just glanced the paperback briefly and accept it without a word.
A misconduct in office or neglect of duty? Was it necessary to remind the librarian about the
replacement?
Jack winked at her confidently: “Rest assured. All done.” When he walked her out of the library,
Amber blurted out: “Are you the son of Chief Librarian? So resourceful to find the right rare edition and
get away from the questioning. Are you exerting some sort of VIP privilege?”
Jack burst into hearty laugh: “How could it be possible? We have different family names.”
“Oh, that’s right!” Amber smiled. What a whimsical thought.
“Look! There is an exhibition!” Jack pointed at the west side of the hall, a zone separated with wooden
frames in all sizes, displaying an array of paintings.
“It says: Ink Wash Painting Exhibition Tour of XXX” Narrowing her eyes, Amber read out loud the words
on a red banner.
“Awesome! You can read cursive script? Even I cannot recognize all the characters.” Jack stared
appraisingly at Amber.
God! This beautiful girl was deep! She did not come from a relevant major!
Amber nodded and darted Jack a wicked grin: “At School of Communication Studies, everyone has to
take Calligraphy Appreciation as the optional course. Did you skip the class?”
Jack smiled at Amber with a steady gaze: “Actually, I am majored in civil engineering.” Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Civil engineering? Why do you study here?” That sounded wired… In her university, the library of Civil
Engineering School was much better-equipped!
Jack blinked: “I came here by accident.”
He did not want to admit that it was the sight of Amber attracted him to visit this small library of School
of Communication Studies.
Intrigued and impressed by Jack’s engineering background and the proverbially stereotyped nerdiness,
Amber felt at ease with this amiable the-big-boy-next-door.
“So the Top 1 Asian Suspension Bridge was designed by your school… Do you know Professor Hill? A
gentle academic giant?”
“Did the winning team of Global Road and Bridge Engineering Design Competition last year came from
your school?”
They enjoyed talking with each other—as school mates, they shared so much common ground.
While visiting the painting exhibition, Amber flexed her artistic muscle. Jack was knocked out.
“A worthy experience to navigate the exhibition under my guidance?” Amber chirped naughtily, treating
Jack as a good friend already.
Jack laughed and pat her head: “Yes, indeed! Thank you for your stimulating elaboration on Chinese
landscape painting!” They smiled into each other's eyes.
Drinking in Amber’s gorgeous grin and twinkling eyes, Jack felt like it was the happiest moment in his
life.
