Leaving
All the way back to the pack, I had to listen to all kinds of harsh name-calling from my wolf, Kiba.
He’s scolding me for everything, from adulterer to bastard and lousy Alpha.
‘Tell me, Glary. How can you banish your own fated mate, not even make any effort to find her? Then chase after another’s mate, risk a war between packs?’ he hounds me.
But I keep ignoring him, my decision is irreversible! All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
None other than Mercedes will be the Luna of Silver Moon. Not one fated mate who has left me in limbo for years, not taken any action to meet me and now thinks she will thwart my plans. In her dreams!
Not yielding to my wolf’s insistence, I hit the accelerator again. The faster I get into the pack and get to my regular workload, the less time I have to listen to his nagging.
‘At least you could have requested the CCTV footage. I would have recognized her. You need to give her a chance to explain why she’s been away so long, Alpha. Why do you run like a loser?’ he pushes his luck one level further.
Now I’ve had enough.
I slam the wall between us shut, pushing him out of my mind. I don’t do this often, actually, I can count on one hand the times I separate myself from Kiba. But today, I really don’t appreciate his shit. I still deal with the pain of hearing Mercedes in the hands of the Alpha, I don’t believe this will be easy to forget.
When I finally arrive at the packhouse, I make my way straight to Saphira’s apartment. I need to vent my mind, need someone to share my pain. She opens the door herself and when I look at her I notice her eyes are red.
“Saphira!” I exclaim. “What is it? Did someone hurt you? That person is so dead! Everyone knows you’re my best friend and under my personal protection.” I tightened, ready to wreak havoc on whoever had hurt my best friend. Silver Moon knows that Saphira is off limits, harming her is like signing your own death warrant.
To my relief, she smiles. “No Glary. No one dares even come close to me”, she jokes. We walk into her sitting room and I throw myself on the couch.
“What is it? You know I hate to see you sad. You are the sun in the pack until Mercedes becomes my Luna of course”, I grin.
And with this last comment, a broad smile breaks on her face. Saphira knows I am obsessed with Mercedes, although she disapproves of me chasing her.
“Glary, give up! Mercedes and Zane are meant for each other. They are fated mates and also crazy about each other, one cannot live without the other. You’re only hurting yourself by stalking her,” she insists.
“You know, Saphira. Everyone assumes that Alpha Zane is Mercedes’ fated mate. But nothing is foolproof as long as her wolf does not accept him”, I tell my friend. “It could very well turn out differently. To be honest, I believe I have a real chance, the attraction I feel to her is a sufficient indication that, in the end, I will turn out to be her fated mate”. But Saphira isn’t buying this.
“Glary, you’re hallucinating! Zane is an Alpha and they have strong senses. And even if you turn out to be fated to her, I advise you to get ready for a solid rejection”, she says almost compassionately. “Let it go, Glary. Please!”
I throw my head to the back and take a few deep breaths.
“It’s complicated, Saphira,” I confide to her. “I just came back from a joyride. When I stopped at the service station to recover, Kiba told me he could sense the scent of our mate. She must have been in the area or visited the cafeteria not long before. He claims she is a strong she-wolf with a big attitude,” I confess. Saphira widens her eyes at my words, her eyes shining bright as she takes my words in.
“Glary!” she exclaims breathlessly. “Do you mean that you have already found our future Luna? Did you go after her? Who is she?” she shoots the questions one after the other.
I shake my head in denial.
“You’re not listening to me! I told you that only Mercedes could be my Luna. I am not interested in a mate already four years late and may already be in another relationship. Whatever it may be, she’s too late. I now have my eyes on someone else,” I say dryly.
“No!” screams Saphira. “You can’t do this! Glary, use your head, please. You’re about to reject your own fated for a she-wolf who’s madly in love with a rival Alpha! Are you mad or what! You have to take her to us,” she commands.
Fortunately Saphira has no authority over me and her order is only illustrative. Every pack member craves their Luna, the better half of the Alpha. And no one wants to miss the opportunity to get to know the future Luna before her installation. Saphira is attached to our pack and the prospect of having the Luna as her friend makes her ecstatic. Silver Moon is everything to her, that’s why she longs for her mate to come from our pack so she doesn’t have to move out.
But so far, she hasn’t had any luck with that, everything points to her mate being from a different pack. When visitors arrive for a meeting or so, she is nowhere to be seen, hides in the woods for fear of an outsider claiming her. I’ve often laughed at her for that silly behavior, but she’s serious about that matter.
“Now tell me, why were you so sad? And tell me the truth, you know I’ll find out if you’re lying,” I try to distract her from my case.
“I felt so lonely,” she admits sheepishly. “But everything is okay now. The news you brought is so wonderful. I think I’ll start to prepare to welcome the future Luna to the pack”, she responds enthusiastically.
“No need to, Saphira. I’m leaving next week for the west for the Alpha training, ” I tell her dryly. “I will be gone for a year. I’ll be back a few weeks before Mercedes’s eighteenth birthday.”
“What!” she shouts now. “You can’t do that, Glary! You should find your mate and leave together for the training.”
“Nope. Not going to happen”, I tell her as I walk to the door. “See you next year, dear Saphira.”
And with that, I go straight to my father’s office to prepare for my departure….
