Chapter 12 by Lorelei Thunder
“You think I wouldn’t know a basic thing like that?”
Kevin shot Woody a glare. “We’ll pick several vital spots and conduct the biopsies there. Someone, go and get the equipment ready.”
Woody refuted, “Even if you conduct the biopsy on all of his bones, you won’t be able to find any trace of poison. Besides, the patient is in no condition to go under multiple biopsies.
“What a load of nonsense! There’s no way Kevin is wrong about this. The minute injuries left from biopsy procedures would hardly cause any damage to the human body.
“You should just keep your mouth shut if you don’t know what you’re saying. You’ll only embarrass yourself endlessly,” Dwayne yelled at him.
Woody responded, “Bone marrow biopsies are harmless procedures for a normal patient. However, Mason Cartwright is in critical condition. The procedure is too harsh for him.”
“The audacity! You’re clearly doubting Kevin’s expertise!”
Kevin snickered. “You’re worried that you’ll lose the chance to pull your schemes if I find the cause of Mr. Cartwright’s illness. Am I right?”
Helen had a troubled look on her face. Both Kevin and Woody were there to help with her father’s treatment. It would be inappropriate for her to take anyone’s side.
“It’s fine even if you don’t believe me. Just don’t regret your decisions afterward.” Woody turned his gaze away after saying that.
Kevin looked at Helen. “Ms. Cartwright, I’m willing to put my reputation on the line. If I fail to cure your father’s illness, I’ll give up the title of an expert and quit being a doctor.”
Kevin felt so confident that he even went ahead and made that promise.
Helen replied, “You don’t have to do that, Dr. Barker. In that case, I’ll be counting on you.”
Her gaze drifted toward Woody. “Mr. Henderson…”
Woody merely stood there without giving her any response.
Helen’s face flushed red in embarrassment. Since they were running out of time, Helen figured she could apologize to Woody afterward.
“Get the equipment ready!”
At Kevin’s command, Dwayne and the other medical professionals worked swiftly and efficiently to set up various machines.
Meanwhile, Pamela rushed down the corridor in her heels inside the adjacent hospital building.
With an anxious expression, she opened the door to a ward and spotted Brutus, whose face was scrunched up. Both of his legs were in a cast.
Trudy lay in the hospital bed next to him. She suffered abrasions to one side of her face while her other cheek was swollen.
Truthfully, Trudy’s injuries were pretty minor. They only had to disinfect her wounds, and she didn’t even need to be hospitalized.
However, Trudy made a fuss and got the doctors to approve her admission. Eventually, she got to stay in the ward with Brutus.
Both Trudy and Brutus were groaning in pain.
“Mom! Brutus! What happened?
“Why didn’t you guys call me? It was Miriam who informed me about this.” Pamela felt so sorry for them that she looked like she was about to cry.
Dickson explained, “Your mom didn’t want to interrupt your date with Mr. Donnel. So, she told us not to tell you so soon.”
It was as if Trudy had spotted her savior when she called out, “Pamela, you’re here! You must do something about this! We ended up in this state because that bastard, Woody, beat us up!”
“That can’t be right. Woody isn’t someone who would do such a thing.”
Pamela couldn’t believe what she was hearing. From what she could recall, her ex-husband had always been a gentle person. He seldom lost his temper, and he would never resort to violence.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Trudy snapped at her, “Who’s side are you on? Are you saying that we faked these injuries? Would Brutus and I hurt ourselves just to put on an act in front of you?”
She was fuming.
“How could you even think of siding with that bastard? Are you really my daughter?
“He’s the one who started a fight with us, and he even told that bitch to hit me and Brutus!
“You don’t know about this yet, do you? He’s seeing someone else now. No wonder he agreed to divorce you without any objections. You were fooled! Do you even know that?”
