A Naive Bride for the Sophisticated CEO

Chapter 11: You did it, Amelia!

Chapter 11: You did it, Amelia!

“I should be asking you that, ma’am. Where are you going?” The driver asked Amelia again. “I don’t know! Oh. My. God! He didn’t tell me the location!”

She grabbed the car seats and yanked herself forward. “Start driving!” She yelled, making the driver flinch.

“You want me to start driving without a destination?”

“Yes! That’s exactly what I’m telling you. Now drive!” She yelled, and he dragged the gear backwards.

The car moved forward all of a sudden, throwing Amelia forward even more. “But where…”

“It’s a black Mercedes Benz! He is in a black Mercedes Benz. If you are very fast enough, we will meet him and track him till we get to the venue.”

“Ma’am, there are more than one Mercedes Benz cars on the highway. You need to be more specific, okay?”

“Just keep driving. I can guess it’s his car when I see it. Go as fast as you can!”

Amelia had never been so restless her whole life. It was her first day, and she was going through hell already.

‘Maybe Tina wasn’t wrong after all. How would I survive for a week?’ She reminisced as she kept scanning the highway with her eyes, looking for James’ car.

The driver kept driving at a high speed, overtaking any car he could. “Who would have thought I’d carry a crazy passenger today.” He mumbled to Amelia’s hearing, but she didn’t care.

Soon Amelia’s eyes fell on the back of a black Mercedes Benz about 20 feets away from them. Her eyes popped wide open, and she stretched her hands towards the windscreen.

“There! That is his car! Right in front of us. You can see it can’t you?” Amelia hit the driver’s shoulder happily, and he shot her a deadly look through the interior mirror.

The car was going at a high speed, and he couldn’t risk turning his head. “You didn’t have to hit me miss. At least we have the car. Can you sit back now? You are distracting me and if we are not careful, we would have an accident!” He yelled.

Amelia threw herself backwards and heaved a sigh of relief. She beamed widely and looked at the driver, who had a huge frown on his face.

“I’m sorry, okay? I was just too excited when I saw his car. I didn’t mean to hit you,” She mumbled.

The driver shook his head and exhaled softly. “Why couldn’t you just call him and ask for the address? Did we have to go through all this stress?” He asked, still keeping his eyes on the highway.

“I would have if I had a phone. But I can’t because I don’t have one. And if at all I had, I wouldn’t have wanted to call him, he is my boss, and I should have asked that before he left.”

“I must say your boss is kinda mean. When you didn’t remember, why didn’t he tell you? Or rather give you a lift. You are going the same way, aren’t you?” He asked, and she nodded sadly.

“Don’t worry. I’m fine. I am not worthy to sit in his car. I don’t mind taking a taxi and following behind him. I just don’t want to get on his nerves again.”

She looked out of the window and saw they had gotten very close to James’ car. She stared at the body of his car until the taxi moved forward, and she could look at the window.

She tried looking into his car through the window, but she couldn’t. She forgot it was a tinted glass. She sighed and moved her face even closer to the window, and this caught the attention of the driver.

“What are you doing now? Now that we are close, do you want to jump down?” He asked, and Amelia let out a slight laugh.

“I just wished I could see him. I want to see the surprised look on his face when he sees that I caught up with him,” She said and looked at the window again.

“I still don’t understand why you don’t have the slightest knowledge of where you are headed. Like why would you even get on the streets without knowing that.”

The driver shook his head in disappointment, and Amelia looked away from James’ car.

“You can slow down now. If we are too fast, then we won’t see where they are headed. They can be in front, but not too far in front.”

Amelia began to feel dryness in her throat, and she slowly rubbed her neck with her hand. She needed water. Luckily for her, she had a small water bottle with water in it in her bag.

She unzipped her bag and reached for her bottle. As she held the bottle, her eyes fell on the file James had given her. Her eyes broadened, and she hurriedly drew it out.

It was the file for the meeting they were headed to. She opened the file and on the first page was the name of the company boldly written.

“General Financial Co-operations.”

She moved her fingers on the bold writing, and below it was the address. Her jaw slacked immediately.

“How did I not think about this? Why am I so stupid? I had the address the whole time!” She yelled, and the driver turned his head to look at her.

“What? Are you kidding me!” He smacked.

“I’m sorry! I forgot about the file he gave me! The company’s name and the address is in it. I was too tense to remember. God, I feel so stupid.”

She hit her forehead with her palm and clasped her lips in anger. She felt like a fool.

“So you know where the General Financial Co-operations company is?” She asked, and the driver hit the steering in rage.

“Please don’t tell me that is where you are going,” He muttered in gritted teeth, and Amelia narrowed her eyes and slowly bit her lower lip.

“It is,” She said in a very low tone, but the driver heard anyway.

“I needed just the name, and I’d take you there! You had to put me through all that stress because of a company that even a year old child knows? Seriously?”

Amelia moved forward and held her hands up like she wanted to say a prayer. She bowed and said;

“I swear, I’m so sorry. But can you take me there now? I would love to get there before he gets there. We can overtake him now.”

She waited for a few seconds to hear the driver speak, but he didn’t. Instead, she heard the car roar and their speed increased. A smile slowly crawled up her face, and she looked up.

“Thank you,” She uttered in happiness. ‘You did it, Amelia. You did it!’

Amelia’s lips parted when the taxi pulled up not so far from the company. She had asked him to stop there.

Now she understood why he said a year old baby would know the company. It was super big and spacious! It was almost like a skyscraper, if not one.

In front of the company were a lot of reporters taking pictures of some people that walked in. “What kind of meeting is this?” She marveled.

“We are here now. Can you alight? I have to keep working.”

The voice of the fuming angry driver pulled her wandering mind back. She hurriedly reached inside her bag and pulled out some dollar notes.

“How much is it?”

“$50.”

“What?! $50? It’s not up to a thirty minutes drive, sir.”

“Oh really? After stressing the hell out of me you still want to negotiate the price? Fine. I’ll lock the door and make sure your boss enters the company before you.”

He turned to his door, and Amelia quickly pulled his hand. “Fine! Here, have it!” She smacked, stretching the notes to him.

He smirked and collected the money from her. She shook her head in frustration and stepped out of the taxi. Her body hair stood upright as the fresh air graced her skin.

She gulped hard when she looked at the entrance to the company. ‘Amelia, don’t tell me you are going to walk through that door with those people.’

Her thoughts sent shivers down her spine, and she brushed her arms with her hands. She looked down the streets and saw James’ car approaching very fast.

The car drove past where she stood and stopped right in front of the reporters. Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Oh God…” Amelia hurried to where the car had stopped, but she hid behind one of the reporters.

James’ driver alighted and ran to the back door where James sat. He opened the door and stepped aside. James stepped out of the car and instantly, the flash and click sound of cameras filled the air.

“Ka-chick! Ka-chick!”

James divulged a feeble smile and adjusted his blazers. He took a quick look around, and Amelia noticed he was looking around.

‘Is he looking for me?’

She smiled widely and waved at him from where she stood. James’ eyes caught her hands behind the reporters, and he let out a smirk.

He rolled his eyes and started walking to the entrance of the company.

‘He is going! You need to go with him, Amelia! They are just flashes and sounds. You will be in the company in no time.’

She encouraged herself and slowly moved out from the back of the reporter. She looked at the narrow path that was created by the reporters and saw that James was in the company already.

“Oh, God.” She clenched her jaw and let out a loud sigh. She proceeded to the door, walking very fast.

All the reporters turned their heads to look at her, and they started taking pictures of her too.

Amelia could hear his loud and fast heart beating amidst the loud shutter sounds. Her feets began to wobble and a drop of sweat rolled down her back.

No one had ever paid her so much attention before, and this time, she felt so scared and weird.

‘Almost there. You can do it.’ She looked up and saw she was a few inches away from the door. She increased her walking pace and stormed into the company.

Immediately she got inside, she grabbed her chest and began to run. She felt nauseous all of a sudden and her breathing was very hard.

She couldn’t see where she was going, and before she knew it, she bumped into someone. She looked up and saw it was James.

“Hm… hmm…” She held her mouth very tight with her hand as she moaned, and she didn’t think twice before running off.
